The wait is over! Magpul announced today on facebook that the MS3 sling and new stocks will be out next month! Looks like magpul will be getting more of may paycheck once again...

I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

Im excited to see what new stocks are coming out. Hopefully a moe with battery storage without the friction lock and weight of the acs. Example imod.

I got a chance to handle the MS3 at the Larue Range day and I must say I'm very excited. Every piece was well thought out and improved upon, the locking mechanisms are much easier to use and made in house. Truly worth the wait.

The overall design of the sling is the same, but all the components are made in-house. The webbing is 1-1/4" not 1-1/2" wide.

Wider is definately better. As for the stocks, I hope that there is a model for Avtomat Kalashnikova.

I imagine the weight of the hardware is less and the material is not as slick. Can't wait to get it but I got a feeling that they will be out of stock real fast...

I handled the new sling and I think they have it truly dialed in now. I look forward to running one soon.

The CTR is still perfect IMHO and I love the friction locks on the CTR and ACS. The only thing I would like to see is the toe curved a bit.

I don't know what they could do in new stocks, but they seem to have that Steve Jobs touch, creating products to supply demands nobody thought they had.

Hopefully by 'next month' they mean 'right at the start of December' because my primary AR is going to get a new stock to go along with the A5 buffer tube kit waiting for it.

Not a dis at magpul, but I would not be surprised if they do not release any stocks until after SHOT at the end of January.

I'm wondering if the MS3 hardware is something that could be purchased by itself? I've seen some very sexy VCAS-MS2 Hybrids, and moving to 1- 1/4" hardware seems like it would only improve how those work.

I'm back to not caring when MagPul turns anything loose in the wild - if it's good enough (usually is) and priced well enough (usually is) I'll buy as many as makes sense (usually do).

I've yet to take Magpul at their word for releasing anything they say on time. If they said next month, which would make good sense as to capitalize on Christmas, but I'll expect to see in in Mar - Apr time frame.

I do like the aesthetics of the ACS-L, but I've never been particularly fond of storage style stocks, with the UBR being the exception. I'm not overly concerned with weight, I just don't see the need to store batteries on my rifle when I replace them as often as I do.

Brownells already has the MS3 for pre-order, so at least it will give you an idea of the pricepoint for these slings. Not sure when they'll be available to be shipped though.

I am wondering the same thing. I currently use URBAN ERT slings and I love them but I like the way Magpul attaches the sling to the weapon.

Think of the ACS-L as a clone of the ACS, just without the battery tubes. The storage is one sided, just like its sibling.

The one I have is not a production model, and I had to pull a QD off another stock, so I'm not sure. The original images which were released show the ACS-L without the QD, which appears to have been an oversight on the part of someone. The ACS-L DOES come with the QD cup regardless of what the first released Magpul images are showing.

I know that isn't much of a straight forward answer to your question, but I don't want to BS you.

I got ya. I would like to see that added by all the manufacturers though. The one in my Vltor is useless because the sling is EASILY twisted.

I would have been more excited about possible improvement with their sling, but with the release of that Mount-slot 2-1 tri glide, the sling would have to be a lot better than a Vickers.

I had an MS2 sling fail on me when I was on course last weekend. We were doing transition drills and when I let my rifle hang during the transition the quick release fob caught between the rifle and my chest rig. It released the rifle and into the dirt it went. I contacted Magpul about the design issue but no response yet.

The other issue I had with it was that it got pretty uncomfortable after about mid day both days. It's just too narrow. I was only shooting a 10" rifle too. It looks like they have addressed the issues with their new design, but too little too late for those stuck with the less than impressive MS2.

Interestingly, most of the other guys on the course ran BFG Vickers slings. The MS2 really out performed the Vickers during shoulder change drills and transitions (when it wasn't dumping my rifle in the dirt), but, none of the Vickers users complained about shoulder discomfort or dumped their rifle.

ForTehNguyen
12-09-11, 21:26
single point is always faster for shoulder transitions than two point

Just got the MS3 slings from the FedEx man for the shop. It still adjusts like the MS2, which I'm not really a fan of. I like the way the VCAS sling adjusts better. The fabric is still soft and slides fairly easily. I do like how the webbing is wider. Feels comfortable but I will still use my VCAS sling for now. The hooks worked just fine on my KAC QD swivel rings.

My MS3 showed up yesterday while I was at work. The plastic hardware seems very well done and the new "paraclip" attachment points are very nice. The locking feature is much better than the two different attachment points on the MS2, and I really like how they are now the same at both ends. The wider material is much more comfortable thand the MS2, and all in I would say Magpul has a much improved product.

I would expect the snap clips on the MS3 to hold up better than the snap shackle on the MS2 at a fraction of the weight. Well done.

I think the MS3 is a big improvement comfort wise, but the slide isn't much of an improvement, if any at all. If you want a good adjuster for 2 point use, I would say go with a BFG sling. I'm partial to my old ones with the metal adjusters, but that's me.
