Finally got to go hunting this year. Opening day of gun season here in NY.

Was walking back to the house around 10am and spotted something on the other side of the cornfield, dropped to a knee and looked through my scope to see a buck staring me down. Dialed for 200 yards and took the shot. Aimed for the sternum and he stumbled then took off, ran about 40 yards and crashed in some brush.

I was super pumped about the whole experience. The shot, the tracking and ultimately finding this buck. Once i rolled him over I realized I shot the village idiot but who cares it was my first deer!

Congrats on it! You did the herd a favor.

I still haven't seen a buck yet. I saw 3 when I was setting up my blind, with 2 of them just staring at me while I did it. So, I was pretty happy with the spot. Unfortunately, some people that aren't supposed to be on the land are making it sound like a friggin gun range & spooking the deer

Congrats on your first buck! He looks like the deer from that kids movie "Open Season". I will have to show that to my kids.

Good job. And don't worry, you can't eat the horns. :)
