Ive been toying with the idea of getting an ar15 and have pretty much decided to get a complete lower and upper so it doesnt take that big of a hit on me at one time. Ive pretty much settled a spikes lower but Im having trouble with which upper. It will be a 5.56/.223 caliber so I can shoot both rounds and will be used for coyotes/hogs and the general plinking around. Id also like to have it where I could mount a flashlight on it if I ever decided to. What do yall suggest? I would like specific models if yall can and dont mind but just brands will work.

Thanks!

What is your budget? Optics?
For what you want any upper would work. Just go basic.
Your may get some heat for this question here. I would research a bunch until you understood makes a good rifle good. This is the best forum for that.

Anyway, just was looking at this 5 minutes ago in the flyer they mailed out.
If I were putting a rifle together I would get this. For me, this is the perfect upper.

DD BCG
Lightweight 1/7 4150 barrel
Mid-length gas system (I would check to see if the gas block was pinned though)
No FSP if you want to run a 1-4 scope or something.
New DD rail - Slick with rails just where you need them

Just add BUIS.

Best brands: Daniel Defense, BCM, Colt, Noveske, LMT.

Your Spikes lower will be fine. Just make sure to get a good upper. Read the stickies on the top of the forum and read up on some good info.

I'm sure others will chime in with specifics.

Look into either a BCM or DD 16 midlength. Before jumping on it though, here are some stickies off the Technical Discussion. These,IMHO, are must reads for anyone looking to buy an AR.
