I was bored so I went on Netflix on my computer, and was browsing what came up in my suggested list. Saw "The Baader Meinhoff Complex" and looked at the description. Says something about commies in Germany in the 60's, foreign film, and sounds at least good enough to watch. I hate commies so learning about them is always welcome, and can look up these groups by name for further research.

First scene is two 8-10 year old girls playing completely nude on a beach in Germany and they don't miss a beat hiding anything. Next up is their dad with his ding a ling flapping in the breeze. Just then I realized my wife had walked in the room to show me something on her computer. Yeah I had to explain why two 8-10 year old girls were playing on a beach on my computer and why the whole scene was nude people.

I don't know whether to laugh or start scrubbing my computer down with bleach. For the record I had watched "Arn: The Knight Templar" and "Armadillo" which is a Restrepo like documentary on some Danish soldiers in Afghanistan which is why it was pulling up the foreign films.

Europeans don't necessarily sexualize nudity. There are naked children on nude beaches.

And our laws are quite different. The first time I went to Europe I was 13 and saw plenty of girls my age and older nude. ;)

Didn't expect 8-10 year olds on my computer in the US on Netflix. :o

It's a good flick.

It's rated R and foreign, caveat emptor.

On a side note, I've always found my fellow Americans' revulsion to seeing penises on screen in rated R movies while being entirely blase about graphic depictions of ultra-violence on non-cable primetime TV as a little strange, and troubling. It's almost Zardozian.

THIS. I never cease to be amazed at the whole "Oh god it is a naked body" reaction. People, of any age, can be naked without it being sexual.

I have never been a fan of our overly puritan view of the human body in this country. It causes a lot of problems in my opinion. But it is a social thing that will take many years to fix.

Thats why I said I didn't know whether to laugh or scrub my computer down.

European society is a lot different and I wouldn't worry about pedo's pulling out a camera taking pics of little kids there. Here the ACLU represent them and make a big case out of it.

In addition to going there when I was 13 my best friend and I went the day after we graduated and went all over western Europe for a month and a half. I then got stationed in DE for 4 years. I enjoy the fact people can be human and not get shit over it there. You can go have a good time and be yourself.

Here the same things will get you locked up whether its intoxicated in public or going for a skinny dip at the beach.

Excellent reference.

John Boorman is responsible for some of my favorite films.

Hope and Glory (producer)

1985 The Emerald Forest (producer)

1981 Excalibur (producer)

That said, I think Belmont31R is more worried about the views of enforcement agencies when it comes to his computer and these images than worried about it personally.

Normally I'd tell him he is being paranoid if he thinks a Netflix movie can get him in trouble in the US. But my father and grandfather would have scoffed at many of today's "crimes" not long ago.

Yeah, yeah. We Americans are backwards and a bunch of old prudes. We should be more like the European. Silly that we fought a war to become Americans in the first place

Think twice. Europe is home to some of the most depraved kiddie porn rings on the planet.

Sure, the Euros tend to not be uptight, but there is a really bizarre sexual undertone hidden in the casual nature of it all.

In theory, naked is not automatically sexual, but I'm a male so I know better.

It's kinda like the locals in Amsterdam telling you there is more to their city than Hookers And Drugs..... Ya, right..... I spent 3 days there and found nothing but that

Yeah I have been there twice. First time I was 13 and second time 18 when my buddy and I went. We only stayed there a few hours then left. Got tired of getting hassled by drug dealers (almost all of them immigrants) and thought I was going to have to fight one who was real pushy and grabbed onto by buddy's arm to spin him around. I have family in Holland (well outside Amsterdam) we just hopped on the train to head out there.

Im sure theres a few good things to see in that city but I never really thought all that highly of it. Munich and other cities are much better.

We ended up mostly sticking to small villages and had a blast.

Rome is another city I don't care for.

I am not saying that there is no kiddie port over there. Or other illegal activities. All I was saying is that we are overly paranoid about seeing people naked in the US.

It is just one of the many aspects of our overly oppressive culture here in the states.

But there is a big difference between the scene he is talking about in this move, (Seen it and it is a pretty good flick) and kiddie porn.

My point was and still is that there is a big difference between nudity and sexuality.

And just to be completely clear I think anyone that exploits or abuses children should suffer a nice slow painful death. But I also think we have become so paranoid as a culture that we jump at the merest hint of a shadow.
