I'm looking for a messenger bag to transport EDC stuff and an unloaded G17 and mags. (yep - Illinois:( I really like how the main cover flap hides any and all pockets, thereby making it look less tactical (evil:)

The Maxpedition Larkspur is REAL close to what I want - but in the various vids that are posted, it seems just a bit BIG for my needs. (and this comes from a guy who is 6'5" and 290:)

Anyone know of a similar type bag that is perhaps 2/3 or 3/4 the size. (I notice Max makes an even BIGGER version - WOW!)

An added plus would be a secondary "belt" that would help stabilize it a little in a "shit & git" type situation.

TIA
john

Sounds like you would be interested in the USGG min-messenger. I have it's bigger brother, the 'Defender', which is a very nice bag! Not sure if you're looking to spend that much $$ (kinda expensive), but it's well worth it. I ordered mine earlier this year, and the wait was approx. 10 weeks; Another thing you might want to consider.

ITS Tactical has a "Discreet Messenger Bag (http://www.itstactical.com/store/discreet-messenger-bag-gen-2/)" that I've been drooling over for a while... but it's (1) out of stock until sometime next year and (2) about the same price as a used G17...

Have you looked at an Eagle Courier Bag? Might it work for you?

I have one, and do like it. Mine is black, and blends in with all the other laptop bags at work. The bag has a zipper on top of the flap, offering quick access to your, um, laptop.....

Natchez has been selling the ones made in the DR for 50 bucks. That's worth a try at that price.

timbuk2 ftw

Seriously. MOLLE covered bags just wreak of douche.

I have a BFG insert for my TBK2 bag that I can keep spare mags in when need be.

how much do you want to spend and what do you expect of it?

for not a lot of jingle, Uncle Mikes makes a messenger bag that has a hidden pistol compartment. the quality is on the low end but it would serve and be repaired or replaced if you're not running spec-ops with it...

I was discussing this bag with a friend who owns the store I saw it at, and the full length zipper gave me an idea.

what I would like is something just like this with a pocket for soft armor insert. the interior could hold mags in a convenient position as well as the soft armor, and the straps could be configured in such a way that you could simply throw the handle over your head and buckle the shoulder strap around your waist with the bag fully opened like an apron.

I'm pretty sure I saw something like this already but don't know where...

That's a good idea. Are you thinking of the Ares Armor RAD pack I believe it is? I still think that design is genius. Not that I have much use for it - but I think it would do very well for those working extremely low profile details.

These are the two I use most. The thing that I have found about any bag is the larger it it the more you will put in it.

Sierra Trading Post often has Timbuk2 bags on clearance.

I gave one as a gift to my daughter, and she has not destroyed it yet. That's a sign of high quality. ;)
