Chrome and TiN carriers and bolts. Why?

I know a few guys with chrome BCGs. They sure do clean up easily. Original VN AR-15s had chrome BCGs. Why did we move away from this? What about TiN?

How about other parts?

The reason the military went away from chrome bolt carriers was they were too shiny for combat, and could give away your position if your ejection port cover was open. When I was in the Army (mid 80s) we replaced dozens and dozens of them. Chrome bolts were ok, just not the carriers.
