Actually, if schools can count ketchup as a vegetable I suppose a frappuccino counts as food.

I'm being facetious, of course. The whole system is busted, whether it's folks buying Starbucks with food stamps or Con-Agra, ADM, and the frozen foods lobby telling us what our kids should get served for lunch in their school cafeteria.

Food stamps are going away in favor of straight up cash deposited into people's accounts or put on debit cards that get reloaded every month so they can be used like regular ATM/credit cards.

Then there will be no control over what is bought.

It's only going to get worse..... The leeches almost outnumber the producers in America.

Ummm....

That isn't true. Virginia went to debit cards years ago. EBT, as it's known, in fact does control what that money is spent on. I worked as a cashier at Walmart a few years ago and in these transactions I would ring up all their goods and run the EBT card and all the "covered" items would be paid for, and non-food items would need to be paid for with other means.

I'm no fan of food stamps (as anybody who has seen some of my rants on the matter), but the above simply is not the case.

I think what Belmont is saying is that is where we are headed. And sadly I think he's probably right. As it becomes more and more automated, there will be less and less oversight.

They already do the cash benefits thing. In TX its TANF and its money deposited directly into people's accounts.

Im not saying everything is currently like a credit card. Im saying at the pace we are going that is the way things will be even for "food stamps".

If I can have a Starbucks Frappuccino then Angel Adams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bavou_SEj1E) should be able to.

More of your tax dollars at work. http://news.heartland.org/newspaper-article/2011/12/06/quarter-billion-taxpayer-dollars-spent-penis-pumps

According to data collected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicare has spent more than $240 million of taxpayer money on penis pumps for elderly men over the past decade, and will surpass a quarter of a billion dollars this year for costs since 2001.

The cost to taxpayers for the pumps more than quadrupled during that period, from a low of $11 million in 2001 to a high of more than $47 million in 2010. And these represent only the costs for external devices, technically classified as “Male Vacuum Erection Systems,” not implantable devices or oral drugs such as Viagra.

My only hope for this current system is that someday, I too can have an EBT card. With this card, I'd like to be able to buy my penis pumps at the same place that I get my starbucks.

Democrats and RINO's will keep taxing and spending until we are into Weimar type inflation and your kids can play with a stack of money taller than they are.

Theres only two ways to split this because the current system is not SUSTAINABLE with 1.5+ trillion dollar debts a year. Something will give eventually. It could be the value of the dollar which has already gone down with QE. If we reduced military spending in half and entitlement spending in half you would have riots on the street when shaniqua's or dwayne's or miguel's EBT card doesn't get refilled (yes leeches come in all flavours). No offense intended if that is your name.

Bare bones constitutionalist republic is the only system that can provide the longevity needed, and a majority of the citizens need to be on the same page even if they are poor or rich. A poor person need to aspire to be wealthy and a rich person needs to have compassion. No not state mandated programs that are criminally inefficient.

This socialist path we are heading down cannot afford 'everything' and there will be big changes. I don't have particular confidence even in this upcoming election that anything is going to change or even that Obama is going to be a 1 termer.
