Anyone have a good lead on something like this? It would be great to have something that would fit between shoulder straps on a backpack/ruck sack set up...preferably something that doesn't necessarily scream "GUN!"...although if it did, I'm sure I could modify it a bit to reduce the signature.

Have you looked at the Hill People Gear Kit Bag (http://www.hillpeoplegear.com/Home/tabid/762/Default.aspx)? I have one and I love the thing. It sounds like this might be the type of rig you're looking for.

As stated above, HPG kit bag. I use mine every week for backpacking/rucking. My Bro bought the runners version. Awesome piece of gear.

Interesting looking rig...I found some other posts about it too.

Anyone know the difference between the runners version and the version that mounts up on a pack? Does it have a retaining strap for a handgun inside the pistol pocket?

They explain all the differences and features on their website. I use mine all the time, so much in fact that's where I usually keep my pistol if it's not actually on my person.

The Kit bag is larger and not as secure for mast moving runs and biking. It holds a bit more gear, and for use on patrols and hikes with a pistol, its just great. The Runners Kit Bag is great for those who may want to carry a pistol, a flashlight, and some chapstick etc while running, but nothing more. Great pieces of gear, but far more expensive than need be.

They sell a lot of these up here; even in the grocery stores.

The Kelty Falcon (http://www.kelty.com/p-261-falcon-66.aspx)'s lid converts to a chest pack that attaches to the shoulder straps.

I just started using mine. It is a quality product.

Don't mind the $300 price tag Kelty shows. I picked mine up for $135 here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370563546492&hlp=false). I have done business with this merchant on multiple occasions and never had an issue.

Botach (http://www.botachtactical.com/kefa40taba.html) also has them for $150.
