For those of you who are running suppressed .22lr, what do you find is the most quiet load for taking small game. Thanks.

RWS Subsonic blue box, quiet and deadly.

I know that you said .22lr, but are you open to .22 short?

I've tried an extensive variety of different subs, by far the quietest, and most accurate were the RWS 40gr. HP subsonics....

It's really good stuff, but it's kinda pricey as well.

I've tried, but it doesn't cycle the action in my Ruger MKIII very well. Thanks for the suggestions. :D

I tried out some ammo today actually. I shot into a phone book in my house. Gotta love suppressors :)

The 60 gr Aguila subsonic was by far the best. Std velocity was still supersonic out of the 16" rifle barrel.

Only the std velocity would cycle my P22 but the 60gr cycled in the 10/22. Look at that weight retention and penetration. I am thoroughly impressed. Perfect round for small game at close ranges.

I'm running CCI Quik-Shok 40 grain SS Plated lead hollow point. $56/500 plus shipping from Midway. I am shooting out of a 5" Beyer barrel.

RWS Subsonic blue box, quiet and deadly.

Will have to try those. Are the bullets copper coated?

I have always like CCI ammo. Clean and reliable.

Aguila 38gr Subsonics are the quietest I have tried to include the RWS Subsonics. Also take a look at the Winchester 40gr Subsonic. They are quiet and have a large hollow point.....trust me when I tell you small critters hate them!

Winchester came out with a CB Long Match...by far the best for short range back yard work. Only 29gr and super quiet and very much improved accuracy from any past CB round available.
Part number X22LRCBMA for those interested. Not sure if they will cycle in a 10/22 as I have not tried them in my AMT. I use these in my Anschutz and dialed in at 25yds.

For precision 50yd varmint hunting, nothing has topped Eley Sub Sonic HP's for their combo of accuracy and killing.

GemTech's new 42gr Silencer Subsonic was purpose-built for something like this. It's $45 / 500rds and worth it.

No, it's the stuff trident posted above. the box used to be predominantly blue.

What was even a hair better than that is the now discontinued Eley Subsonic Xtra Plus HP. That shit would cut a cloverleaf 10-round group at 100 out of my 77/22, and has killed more pussy than Ted Bundy.

JChops my old friend, have you or anyone else here run the GT ammo yet?

Looking at buying some, just want some user feedback before I pick up a brick.

Yes, it's running great. We've put it through a Tibbett's 10/22 & MkII, as well as an older integral Urbach 10/22.

No malfunctions on the semi-autos and everything subsonic so far. Very accurate and relatively clean-burning ammo.

It's all we've been using now for suppressed .22 work.

That's all I needed to hear brother, will try a brick or two & ironic that you mention John Tibbetts.

I just submitted an F4 for a sale to a fella on an integral 10/22 that John built for me several years back, small world.

I didn't know Murray did 10/22 integral work, is he still doing any NFA items? His timeframe was always @ the pace of molasses but quality 2nd to none.

Hope all is well up there, bet you are enjoying the unseasonal warmth, look for an email or telcon perhaps.

I've tried just about every factory sub and regular load and I've settled on SK standard plus (not subsonic) loads. They're the same load a Wolf Match Target. Definitely the most accurate in my Savage MKII, very quiet. Assuming you don't need expansion for small game, that's what I'd recommend.

ETA: you said best in your title, and quietest in your first post. Any subsonic out of a suppressed bolt gun is going to be stupid quiet, but I suppose something like a CB cap would be the quietest. Not a great game load though

I have had good luck with the CCI Green Tag, it cycles all my Suppressed .22LR Handguns and Rifles, never have had any problems with it, a little pricey also...

Do you run the risk of a baffle strike with SSS? I've read that you need at least a 1/9 twist to stabilize. I only shoot it out of my 10/22 with an aftermarket barrel.

I use CCI standard velocity out of my pistols with good results, but I don't hunt with it.

I've shot the SSS through my CZ Kadet and CZ452 and never had an issue with baffle strikes. Through my BCM upper with CMMG Conversion its incredibly accurate!

FWIW, the SWR Spectre's manual specifically says not to use the 60 gr SSS load.

CCI has a new "Quiet 22" load. Supposed to be 62db without a can.

Grant or anyone else here in this thread, curious if J Chops & myself are the only ones using & satisfied w/ the GemTech offering?

I have not used it so I just don't know anything about it.
