View Full Version : Difficulty choosing sling attachments and locations...opinions welcome

I've just got my new 6720 and my VCAS and I'm trying to decide on sling attachment options. I'd like to mount either a QD or HK hook near the rear of the handguard, but I'm not really wanting to install a rail (nothing but the sling would be mounted on it and I'm not sure I want the extra weight). Barring that, I suppose BFG's wire loop can get me the location, if not the attachment method, that I want, but it seems more of an expedient fix than a permanent solution. Something else I've considered is attaching a Magpul RSA at the front end of the receiver rail, but I have no experience with this piece of equipment and no idea how it would work out. Has anyone tried this location for a sling attachment?

The rear attachment will most likely be a QD plugged into a Noveske plate. I may or may not attach a MASH hook to the QD. If anyone has any experience with the Vltor's big loop snap hook plate (http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=SASE), I'd love to hear about it, as it's yet another option I'm considering.

Thoughts, comments, and criticisms welcome. I've read rob_s's threads here (http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=33734) and here (http://ns1.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=70377) and both are full of good ideas. The biggest obstacle is my hesitance at installing a rail. The rifle is just so light and quick now and I don't want to take away from that. Thanks.

I have, and still use both the LPSM and the VTAC, as well as built-in QD cups in that same spot - I happen to like using the back of the handguard as the front mounting point.
IWC has some mount-n-slot items that may work if you don't want to install a railed handguard.

Since you're already considering using the Noveske end plate, why not use the same up front? I've drilled several MOE stocks and one of the standard handguards and they all worked well. There was a thread on drilling the Noveske's into the hand guards awhile back. I just picked the spot and drilles a pilot hole and slowly enlarged it till I hit 1/2 inch, pushed the attachment in and marked the spot for the other hole. I can't remember the size but seem to recall using a 5/16 to countersink it when done. They are also around $20.00.http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=TRXQDM&reference=/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi%3Fsearch%3Daction%26keywords%3D%26searchstart%3D9%26template%3DPDGCommTemplates/FullNav/SearchResult.html%26category%3DNRIF

Check out the offerings from Mount-N-Slot. It seems like every single thing I wanted to jerry-rig at one time or another is now available in quality production from these folks.

I went for the IWC micro mount-n-slot for an MOE hand guard, but it works on standard hand guards as well. And only $19 delivered.
Then for the rear attachment, the QD endplate sounds good.
IWC might even have something for the standard stock.

Pic of the IWC micro, check their website for pictures of it installed on standard hand guards

Definitely check out IWC. Im a fan of the noveske QD end plates too but I dont know if I would clutter it up by using a mash hook in conjunction with the QD swivel.

Both have blue force vickers 2 point on QD swivels. The fore ends are from IWC, they are Magpul MOE. The one stock is LMT SOPMOD the other is VLTOR EMOD.

IWC also makes a sweet piece that instantly turns these slings into a single point.

I went with a Magpul MSA on my MOE hand guard for my 6720, and despite my initial concerns about being a flimsy (a screw-on mount on a plastic guard), it turned out to be a very solid, light setup. The HK hook works well with this on my VTAC, and would do so as well with your VCAS.

This also allowed me to get the mount relatively close to the delta ring, but can be configured just about wherever you want on the MOE slots.

Novesky QD endplate and an IWC socket on the MOE handguard. I use the VCAS with sewn in QD's. The gun hangs nicely with this set-up.
