View Full Version : Suppressor for 7.5" Adams Arms or 8" LWRC
I'm sure I am not the first to ask....but is it possible to suppress a 7.5 or 8" SBR in .223? I have heard that it is impossible because the pressure is too high in that short of an SBR and will blow the baffles out of the front of it. Now, there is an 8" SBR for sale who the owner says spoke to SureFire and said there would be no problem what so ever! So, I am confused! I'd love to hear any and all sides!
Possible, yes. Good idea, not so much.
It will be hard on a silencer but a quality one will hold up OK, with a shorter service life.
The shorter pistol gas systems used on those length barrels is overrun much more than even a 10.5" with carbine gas. Expect a shorter service life there as well.

not alot of cans out there are factory rated to that short of a barrel. Take a look at thunderbeast arms
It will suppress but it will be pretty "loud" compared to even a 10.5'' or 12. It will wreck your blast baffle pretty quick too. A 10.5'' is marginally longer but warrantied by most companies with their cans... just sayin.
The Ops Inc M4 S should take the bark from a shorty like the PSD.
I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that AACs 762-SDN-6 would work with the super short 5.56 barrels. I think it has to do with the larger suppressor bore.

I heard the same thing.
AAC said the AAC 762-SDN-6 is good for 5.56 down to 10" barrels and 8" for 300 blackout... It's a hell of a can that's for sure..

All AAC cans are warrantied down to 10" barrels. The SDN-6 is warrantied down to an 8" barrel with 300BLK or 5.56 as per the limitations statement in the back of the winter 2011 catalogue.

My class 3 guy who sold me my SDN6 told me 10" on 5.56. I'll take your word for it.. My shortest barrel is 12" right now so I'm GTG no matter what...
Warranty or not, the reality is that a faster burnout of the powder on larger calibers like 6.8 and 300BLK produces have less blast than 5.56 from the shorter barrels . This should translate to being easier on any suppressor.

10" is standard for all of their suppressors. It used to be 7", but they changed it after that whole ARFcom fiasco with one of the members saying he only shot 200 rounds through his suppressor, and it looked like a shit ton of F/A mag dumps with a short barrel. I'm sure you could search for it if you wanted to, but AAC changed their warranty policy, I'm thinking pretty much exclusively because of that fiasco.
Also, just for reference, here's a picture just because I'm the type of person that likes to see this kind of stuff for verification.

True. I suppose it's not unreasonable for someone to want to take some of the bark off a PDW length weapon. I've toyed with the idea of wanting a 7" PWS Diablo/ Noveske Diplomat PDW style upper. I wouldn't put my M4-2000 on one. I don't really care about the warranty issue, and I'm not worried about "wearing it out" with my 10.5" upper, the pressure would beat the HELL out of it though for as hard as I'm known for running carbines.
The guidelines for the 762-SDN-6 changed this year, last i heard were:
down to 6.5" with 300BLK and 7.5" with 5.56.
These ONLY apply to the 'N-6. And baffle erosion is considered normal wear and tear, life will be reduced the shorter the barrel.
Muzzle brake mounts on vSBR's will help dramatically.
Now, there is an 8" SBR for sale
Think about why that 8" might be up for sale......

No doubt. They probably found a good deal on a 7.5", so the 8" had to go...

I spoke with AAC on the phone about three months ago, I was told SDN-6 would be covered under warranty for 7.5" or longer 5.56 and 10" or longer for 7.62. Voice only, but the person I talked to was knowledgeable and quick to know the answer, so it sounded legit to me.
