I recently picked up a belt mounted mag carrier from Mako. It's a single piece injection molded unit that is carried like a paddle holster. While I'm generally not a fan of paddle holsters and even less enthusiastic about Mako products, this is not too bad of an offering. This was purely a crime of opportunity as it was a cheap rigid mag carrier for the belt line without having to place an order with an online retailer or make one myself. While I could make on, I've already got too many projects to work on.
I haven't actually used it yet but here are my initial impressions.

The good:
1. It works with Pmags and even 20rd mags.
2. It'll hold the mags in either orientation, bullets to the back or front.
3. It feels rather sturdy. The center of the mag opening flexes only a little with firm pressure.
4. It doesn't require a belt. This kind of a good thing because I don't always wear a belt.

The bad:
1. The mags are held in by two pointed tabs that seem rather flimsy and likely to catch on something and snap off. I don't think loosing the tabs would instantly cause the mag to hit the deck, but I think it's the most likely failure point.
2. There is no way to adjust the retention on the mag.
3. The paddle has two prongs to prevent the carrier from slipping out from between the user and their pants. These prongs are rather sharp and are likely to wear holes in your pants.

The ugly:
1. There is a lot of flash left on the mag carrier and most of it in areas that will be hard to trim off. Granted, it's a cheap product and form should follow function when it comes to gear, it would've been nice to see much less flash.
