View Full Version : QD socket for any plastic shotgun stock, PICS
Had this developed and have finally got around to taking some photos.
Been testing it the last 3 months. Provides a simple solution to add a QD socket to any plastic shotgun stock. Will also work with Magpuls MOE handguards too and fit very flush.
We have run these on our competition Benelli's and it makes slinging a SG alot easier now. Thought some 3 gunners might be interested in seeing these installed.
installing it was pretty easy, Flush QD Mount can be installed in most plastic stocks that are hollow and handguards that have a relatively flat section.
1) 1/2" hole must be drilled
2) Material thickness of less than 1/4"
3) install it!

You can't see it in the pictures but the production version has the bottom closed so debris can't get into the stock.
I'd like to try it with a wood stock. I hate the standard SG sling mount. Should be able to drill it out with a forstner bit to control the fit and depth. If screwing it in is less than optimal it could be epoxied, no?

I am super excited for this to come out, I plan to replace an IWC micro mount in my MOE hand guards that I drilled a bit sloppily.
These are rotation limited correct?
What is the ETA on these?
Rotation limited, yes.
The first batch is out for finish, they should start shipping early Jan.
The thread pitch is very fine, I would not screw it directly into a wood stock and expect it to hold. Maybe the nut could be modified and epoxied into the stock. You should ask a gunsmith that is familiar with wood stocks, because I am not.
Something to think about. I've been searching for some sort of QD swivel solution so that I can use a VCAS or VTAC with the Hogue Overmolded stock on my little 10-22 TT. I'll have to pull the action/barrel and remove the buttpad to see a) if the stock is hollow and b) how thick it is.
this is awesome! and great price!
Just in time for my 870 police trade-in project. Kudos for making the socket rotation limited...nobody likes a twisted sling.
Damn, I was just talking through this two days ago for a finishing touch on a SHOT Show project.
PM/e-mail inbound.

I will be at SHOT in the Benelli booth in the mornings doing weak hand reloads and talking three gun along with my team mates so you can stop by while I'm there if you'd like to see one. Never got anything from you on this.
The user installable NST QD flush mount, works for making shotgun stocks, MOE handguards and A2 stocks that much easier to sling and the best part is, you decide where you want it! Shipping now!

Cold,
Very cool... A great addition to a speedfeed 870 stock... Will it also fit on a standard colt M4 or A2 hand guard???
B
Great idea. I'm going to have to try that one.

Is there a crack starting to form on the exterior of the A2 stock on the third pic on the linked Noveske website? Or am I just seeing things?

It looks like a scratch to me, not a crack but I can see how it might appear that way, will see if I can get a birds eye view of the A2 up to be sure.
For the money these things are very handy when you want to sling something that didn't come with a simple slinging option.

I had that done with a couple of QD sockets. Seems to work pretty well for my application:

It might require some work on the heat shields for clearance. With the curved shape and ribs it won't sit as flush and nice as it does in the MOE.

There is no crack in the stock, not even a scratch so it is just something with the lighting in that pic.
The prediction for mid-January shipping was off the mark. The ones I ordered via the website arrived a couple of days ago. Nice.

Nice. What QD sockets did you use? The ones in the picture look like they have a flange. I have some Blackhawk sockets and they don't.

Well that's the $64K question isn't it! I honestly don't remember. I think I ordered them from Brownell's, but they were piggybacked on someone else's order, so I can't look up the history. :(

I'm pretty sure the ones that brownells carries are grovtec
Alas, the Hogue overmolded stock on my 10-22 is thicker than 1/4 at the butt, and much thicker than that at the forearm. Back to the drawing board. All I need is is a 45/64ths Forstner bit to counterbore for the flange....
Did you guys drill the comfortech stock? No issues doing that?

The plastic used in that stock is flexible and can grab the bit some when you drill it. If I couldn't clamp it down on the mill I would probably try to get a piece of wood that fit tight in there as a backer for the drilling. You also need to keep the hole far enough away from the rubber inserts to not interfere with the nut on the inside.
The ones from Brownells come in a Brownells yellow parts bag, so it's hard to say who made them. I'd guess Grovetec or possibly Michaels.
They are also 1/2" in diameter, and 1/2" long. There are a couple grooves on the OD to facilitate epoxy grip, and a hole in the bottom countersunk for a flathead screw, so they can be mounted either way.
I mounted several of these in a GI M1A stock much like the wooden stock pictured. In the forearm, I welded a washer on the back, and I Acraglassed them all in. The washer ensures they cannot pull out.
I wish these had been out, would've been much simpler. I'll remember them for next time.
Thanks, these turned our pretty well and we are extremely happy with them. So far we have found multiple uses for them beyond shotgun stocks. We have a few more things coming soon and might likely be seen at SHOT. Stay tuned as there is more on the way.
Very cool. I'll be picking some up for my 870 and Gold Hunter.
Glad I decided to browse thru some previously missed/skipped threads. This is exacty what I need for my Blackhawk/Knoxx collapsible stock on my 870, and I'll get 1 for the MOE stock on my daughter's AR, and 1 for her standard synth stock on her 870. I may even try 1 out on my son's Saiga rifle.
This is just tooooo cool! (yes, I tend to get overly excited about simple little innovations :D )

Scott, if you don't mind, could you post a photo how the NST QD installable socket works on the KNOXX Stock? We are trying to collect a photo package of all the uses this item can be installed on. Thanks again for taking a chance on the product, I hope you like it.

Sure thing - glad to be of help.
I just received some of these and promptly mounted them into the plastic buttstocks of both my 870 and my Benelli M2.
Brilliant!
I was initially concerned about the ability of those small teeth on the nut to lock onto the hard plastic, but not to worry, they are solid.
I mounted one on my work 870 with SF IVs stock on Saturday. It is solid and brilliant in its simplicity. I have been looking for a way to mimic my rifle sling configuration for my shotgun and this fit the bill perfectly. It was only $20 to boot. It replaced a GG&G receiver endplate, which also shortened the LOP, even if ever so slightly.
Glad you guys are finding these useful. I know we have when it comes to slinging a shotgun for competition.
Should have more in stock soon. These got big reviews by our fellow competitive shooters at SHOT and some other non comp gun guys found some good uses for them in their line of work.
Sorry to resurrect, but I'm interested in putting this socket into the Urbino stock on my M2.
Looks like you have the socket on the strong side of the stock. Advantages to that?
As an aside, I blindly stumbled on what appears to be another such useful Noveske product that solves my problem as to where to plug in the other end of the QD sling if you have a Nordic barrel clamp.
