I have a Noveske barrel already but exploring different options from the MEGA to what I have heard that you can have the barrel setup for a LMT or something else.

Researching and exploring it, I'm seeing stuff from Sun Devil to others and maybe my googlefu is weak:( in the end whichever gets me to the goal of a complete rifle without breaking the bank would be nice.

I have the furniture also, well just the buttstock and also a scope ready to go on it( lupy 4.5-14x50 m1 mrk4)

So the one part that you have is VERY high quality (and I assume wasn't even close to being inexpensive) and you want the 'cheapest' everything else?

Dont think cheapest think greatest value.
Sometimes its just worth it to bite the bullet and lay out a significant chunk of money for a part that may not seem that important.
Buy cheap... Buy twice.

my apologies if you are confused.

I inherited the 308 barrel from a buddy that promptly gave up on the quest himself.

I'm just wondering which receiver upper and lower will work with the Noveske barrel.

I know the barrel is quite a bit of coin but I was hoping that maybe the rest of the setup can be had for far less coin than expected.

I own two Sun Devil SD-308 lowers and would recommend them to anyone. I have a DPMS AP4 upper on one and the other is still being built. I am waiting for a Lothar Walther barrel and Sun Devil upper.

Sun Devil just started producing their first upper receiver. They current production does not have an ejection port cover or forward assist.

Sun Devil has plans to manufacture two additional uppers. One with a dust cover but no forward assist and the other with a forward assist and dust cover. They have talked about building 20 moa into the upper's rail, but I don't know if they are going to or not.

The barrel and bolt are the two most important parts to me. You already have a quality barrel.

Good luck with the project.

From what I have read you can use a AR-10 style barrels on .308 DPMS style AR's. If you built the rest of the weapon with companies that make DPMS style 308s this could save you a alot of $. I believe you can get DPMS and CMMG stripped receivers on the cheap. Here is a quote I found from AR15barrels that states what needs to be done. He is talking about using the AR10 style barrel in a DPMS style receiver.

"Barrel extensions are compatible as are bolts, just cheak the headspace.
The difference between Armalite and DPMS is in the length of the gas tube and the location of the gas block seat on the barrel.
Armalite are 3/16" longer than DPMS.
If you use an Armalite barrel, use an Armalite gas tube with it.
DPMS barrels use standard AR-15 gas tubes with some extra bend put into them to account for the larger diameter bolt carrier."

This is what I used

Buffer spring (http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/ARMEA1095.aspx)
Buffer (http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/ARMEC0120.aspx)
RE (http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/VLRE-10A5SR.aspx)
RE nut (http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/ARMEC0053A.aspx)
Stock (http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/MAG400-BLK.aspx)
Cheek riser...thing (http://www.laruetactical.com/larue-tactical-risr-reciprocating-inline-stock-riser) this is a pretty neat attachment. It shows on the website it installing into the CTR but I put it on my MOE no problem. Plus it came with Dillo Dust and it was AWESOME!
LPK (http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/DD-05-013-21007.aspx) I discarded the pistol grip as I hate it and put a tango down in its place. Without using the pistol grip and MOE bottom part (the name escapes me) you could probably get a custom LPK from G&R with only the parts you need
Upper/lower (http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2200) uses dpms thread patter for the rail and I managed to catch it on sale last Christmas for $499
BCG (http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/ARM10501001.aspx)
Rail (http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2497) you'll have to check what your upper high is. there is a diagram there that will tell you what the dimensions should be for the low vs the high
Comp (http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2211) personal preference
Barrel (http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=1840) which you already have

I also had my barrel dimpled by Marvin Pitts with nefarious arms and it lightened the barrel about...half a pound. Marvin was good to work with and he assembled the whole upper for almost nothing.
One thing I knew in the back of my mind when I was buying all these parts over last year, all the tools to assemble a 308 upper are NOT the same tools to assemble a ar15 upper. Duh me! But if you intend on doing this yourself you need a new upper receiver block, lower receiver block, and a wrench to put the compensator on. The standard ar15 barrel nut wrench will work for the barrel but though. I think Marvin charged me like $20 or $30 for the assembly and the tools cost upwards of $100 so it was sort of a no brainer to have it put together for me

I'm sure you could find a few cheaper parts, but the Armalite stuff is about as cheap as I would dare go. I wouldn't skimp any lower than that or you're going to sacrifice quality. And the build I posted, even with you owning the barrel already is almost 2k. Do you want to risk damaging your $550 barrel over a $20-$50 part difference here or there?

As has been stated in many other AR308 threads, nothing about shooting AR308's is cheap.
