Looks to be a Critical Defense variant designed to meet FBI ammunition protocols. Anyone know more about it?

We have not as yet tested it, but are looking forward to doing so in the forthcoming year.

Definitely looking forward to how it performs also!

Absolutely looking forward to this. I know that everything i have seen about the Critical Defense has been slightly disappointing, especially in the .45 ACP, so if the Critical Duty fares better, I'll be happy to eat my words.

Doc, do you have any new info on the Hornady Critical Duty ammo?

We have received the .40 and will be testing some in the next few months.

Thanks for updating Doc!

BTW, what weights did they get to you for testing?

Hoping you get to test the 9mm also as I have switched to this from .40 since making my original post.

As of right now I think it only comes in 175 grain.

I read somewhere they also have a 135gr 9mm?

That's a pretty unique weight for this caliber and it makes me wonder what other things this load may bring to the table.

not sure what benefit the non-standard weight would offer us.

Take it for what it's worth since I can remember neither the article nor author, but in my recollection 180grn was reduced to 175grn for OAL reasons to help feeding.

I saw some at the local cop shop/tactical goodies store the other day. I hope the price is an aberration because it was $4 and $5 more expensive than Speer Gold Dot.

I'll pass if that trend continues. Speer GD is my go-to round because it generally performs well across the calibers AND is readily available in most local and internet sources.
