I tried a few searchs but can't find what I'm looking for, or if it even exists.

I was trying to find some type of thin pad or padding that will fit behind my plates for increased comfort. Is there such an item?

Yeah, I had looked at them before. The only thing I'm finding is kevlar backers, no padding backers. I'm thinking of putting some kind of edge padding around the inside edge of the plates. This is the area that is causing some comfort issues. Anyone else been down this road?

I'm wondering if there is a fitment issue at the root of your discomfort.

First, does everything fit you? Are your plates and carrier both the proper size for you? Does the plate correctly fit the carrier?

What brand, type and size carrier? What brand, type and size plates? Are they 'in-conjunction-with' and require a soft armor backer or be worn over soft armor?

Many plates are rated to require Level IIIA plate backers or soft armor behind them. If so, using simple foam padding will only decrease your discomfort until you are shot. Then it may not bother you anymore.

If your plates are truly 'stand-alone' and you only want something for padding/comfort, you could try some 4 or 5mm neoprene wet suit material?

They are ESAPI plates, I believe by BAE. We just got them padded two days ago, everything is fine with them now. The problem was that one of the plates had a lip on the inside edge from the resin. My previous vest had a layer of padding between the plate pocket and myself. My new vest does not (Mayflower), however we added some edge padding and all is well now. Thanks for the response.
