What is your SINGLE most "favoritest" piece of gear?

This can be anything from a pack to a magpouch, as long as it is a piece of tactical/competition gear that you find does it's job better than any other alternative.

If you modified it, what did you do?

Oh.. that's a tough one... but I'll have to say my 6004 Holster for my G17..
I modded it to the high ride configuration and eliminated one of the leg straps..

It's comfy.. stands up well under heavy use and is very secure. The mod was simple and effective and it's one piece of gear I use all the time...

Since I started this thread, I guess I should at least answer it.

My favorite piece of gear:
Hatch X-Tak (http://www.uscav.com/Productinfo.aspx?productID=11267&TabID=) kneepads.

Absolutely the best kneepads I have ever used, and they are cheap as dirt.

Followed by my new X300 with the Glock DG switch...very impressive!!!

Rob,

How reliable is the mag retention in those?

Rob,

Works great for what I do; classes and matches. I'm not sure it would be the best thing for cruising around Iraq in the back of a HMMV, but for civilians (both LEO and non-) I think it's plenty secure. The pouches are kydex-reinforced and then felt lined for retention.

It's not tactical gear, but my Dillon case trimmer and trim die has really improved my life.

This is my favorite, even though I can't use it for my current mission. You can fit everything in this bitch and still haul it long distances comfortably. It's Built better than any ruck I have ever used.

Forgive my ignorance; this is an Eagle chest rig, no?

I'm sick of using AK chest rigs for AR mags, and need something just like this.

Yeah, in Grey, that bag will kick ass. That bad fixes all the problems with the DBT E&E bag; which is great until you put the mags in it and it doesn't stay vertical.

I agree. The DBT bag is the well made and smartly designed, but the strap needs to be redesigned. It's too short for anyone over 110 pounds, especially with kit. As mentioned it flips over when loaded down (I guess that's why they have the waist belt on the back).

I will definitely buy the Eagle bag...

I would say it's a tossup between the 6005 for the G17 I had (which I have neither) and need to get one for a 1911, or the Esstac Bush Boar. Beautiful design and the ability to swap the panels for different mags and use the shoulder harness....it's wonderful.

I believe they have since fixed the strap length. Mine is plenty long (bought 3 months ago), but guys who have the first run have the super short strap.
They should have dropped the flap, and put the AR mag pouches on the inside and line each outer wall of the interior with 3 mags. The strap is completely off centered to carry the load of 6 mags. Don't get me wrong, it's built as tough as they come, but they probably designed it on paper without any operational feedback.
I'm glad Eagle is putting the mollee crap on the inside...where it should be.

Rob- do you mind if I ask where you got the pouches? I assume they are EI too..? I've looked for those, but no luck so far.

I couldn't imagine a carbine class without my CSM dump pouch. It is one of the most useful pieces of gear that I own.

By "gear", I'm thinking that means something you wear (otherwise I'd say my 15 year old Dillon 550).

My first thought was my Eagle Chest Rig.
Yes, like Rob S's except mine is tan.
But while it's awful handy to keep in the car or house as a grab and go item (I keep mags, a Surefire, and cellphone pouch in/on it), and for the ocasional class, it really doesn't get used that much.

So I'd have to say my favorite is my Maxpedition Rolly Poly.
It goes on a belt or the Eagle Chest Rig. It rolls up into a tidy little package to be out of the way when on the belt or can be carried/stored about anywhere.
I've used it as a dump pouch (on the Eagle Chest Rig), as a shotgun ammo pouch, an empty brass bag, and even for picking up walnuts in the yard.
Quite a useful item.

I wanted to nominate my CSM dump pouch as well, but it just seemed so uncool compared to rob_s' Eagle chest rig. :p

I bought an Emerson CQC-12 a few weeks ago. Easily the best knife I have owned. Rock solid lock. Its like a folding chainsaw. Highly recommended

I've got the Eagle AK version of Rob's rig, I like it very much and I guess I'll have to get the AR version, I didn't even know they made one.

Even though I've only had it for less than a week, my custom John Willis/SOE MWR is my favorite. The quality of the construction is beyond reproach and little details like a tear away IFAK and PALS made of multicam material made the wait worth it.

Way to go Rob, I've been looking for one of these for a couple weeks and now you're gonna have the whole site looking for em! :D Seriously, it looks like a great rig for a civi that doesn't need all the extra real estate.
