i have been thinking lately about getting a fde model but not being able to find one locally to look at has be hard.

pictures on line have the color distorted all sorts of ways so that its hard to see and accurate picture of the color. some look great and some look terrible like a puky color

if it's right on point with magpuls FDE color i'm sold because i have seen that and do like it.

can anyone verify/comment?

I can tell you that I had the same issue. So I took a photo of mine. I can't compare to Magpul's color, but this is the true color of the firearm. Most photos i've seen have too much of a yellow tint to it.

if it REALLY looks like that i'm sold! and i'm right there with you. most pictures look yellowy and sometimes like a puky green.

but if it matches the color in the one you just posted i am 100% all over that as my next purchase!

edit: nice stippling btw

I will pull the gun from the safe tonight and compare to the photos to make sure 100%, but I feel mine is the closest representation to the real color.

Here is the same gun above from the original owner I purchased it from. You can see the difference.

I pulled the pistol out of the safe. Color is correct in the first photos. Enjoy your new pistol :D

Are the FDE slides still shipping with a gold tint to them?

That was on the vtac model and the more recent ones Supposidly have that "gold" look corrected

I have a late 2011 production M&P9 VTAC and the slide color is much better than the early run. Not as hard as melonite and it is marred easily by kydex...but I suspect it will hold up well.

I concur with comment on the later model VTAC. Mine was good to go color wise, but the sights almost fell off the gun after the 10th round and I had to send it back to Smith and Wesson. Not the fiber optic piece as has happened to many, but the entire front and rear sight. May be a consideration if that is the model that you are looking at. The gun shot amazing for the first 9 rounds and the sights were great, but the slide left much to be desired.

For what it's worth, the problem with color on non-calibrated computer monitors is that you can't take a picture of it, look at it on your screen, then post it and say 'looks right'. The color could look different to somoene else on a different computer/monitor.

I know, but i've see this on 4 different computers, only one is calibrated and it looks to be the most like the firearm.

Hyatt Gun Shop in Charlotte, NC has a few in .40SW as of last week. I bought one for $649 which is not too bad. FYI, it can be hard to find spare mags with the FDE baseplate.

Nice guys. I need more tan baseplates for mine. Here is another shot of it with different lighting in my custom holster. I think another with the TLR-1 is up soon.
