I'm working on getting some optics for my PSL and might get another Kalashnikov variant at some point in the future as well, so a question comes up. What are the differences between the side rails on them? What do I need to know about fitting between the two styles--are they interchangeable or at least somewhat close? Also, are there any particular brands you like or dislike?

Simple Answer?

They are not "interchangeable"

They do swap across, but you must take into account that the side rails are in different positions relative to the bore with respect to height and front/back position.

PSL rails use a front recoil stop and the AK's use a rear one.
You can use an AK rail on a PSL in a pinch and it will work, but it will not be ideal by any stretch.

What kind of optics are you looking for?
