Hi, does anyone know of a method or touch up paint that could be used to touch up some scratches on an early M16A2 upper receiver which is what some people call Colt pre-ban gray. Thanks in advance.

Birchwood Casey aluminum black is excellent for that purpose. On Colt light gray the scratches will disappear as long as they aren't deep.

While I am not a big fan of painted finishes, Brownells does offer a baking laquer that comes in a couple shades of gray that should match up nicely to your original receiver finish.
Best to remove the barrel assembly and use an airbrush to blend the scratches, then bake to cure the laquer.

These laquers are fairly durable but nowhere near as much as the original anodizing.

I couldn't say it better myself... so I didn't.
It's also the best for touching up parkerized parts.
