Well I need a new bi pod for my new build and already have a head ache looking at the different models. Last time I bought a bi pod there was only like three choices. Probably going to go with a Harris. Which models are you using and recommend?

I have a BRM-S 9-13 I think.
The BRM I guess makes it the military notched leg version.
The S is for the swivel base that you can lock to not have it swivel.
The 9-13 is the adjustment in inches.

There are about 4 of the mil notches to set your height at. The standard bipods have little knobs to tighten the legs where you want them. On a regular Harris, you pull the legs out to the desired length and turn the knobs to lock them. Turning the knobs CCW releases the legs and they slam home.

On mine, pushing the little button makes them shoot straight out via a small spring. If there is nothing in the way of the feet, they will shoot straight out all the way and lock into place.

the swivel is nice for uneven surfaces but you wouldn't need it if you only do bench shooting. For an uneven surface, you *could* finely adjust one leg to be a little shorter than the other but it would NOT be fun...

Longer legs would be too long for me, for sure. Using any type of rail adapter adds height too.

At a bench I almost wish I had 20 rounders and a shorter set of legs. I think they make a 6-9" that is popular with the thompson contender crowd.

Outers makes a knockoff of the Harris. I fondled one at the nearest Gander Mountain and didn't like it because it BIT me. It was ok but I knew the Harris would last.

One more thing- I rarely use the Harris at the range anymore...

Model BR: (Bench Rest) Lowest of the Bipods. Most useful for shooting off the bench. Adjustable height from 6" to 9".

Model L: (Light) The world's largest selling bipod, compact and light. Adjustable height from 9" to 13" Weight 11 oz.

Model H: (High) For prone or sitting shooting, it's the best for varmint shooting. Adjustable from 13 1/2" to 23"

Model 25C: The tallest of the Bipods, Three piece leg construction adjustable from 13 1/2" to 27"

Series "M": A new version of the original Leg Notch Bipod. The legs eject by spring action. Height settings in 1" incremwents.

Series "S": Rotates to either side for instant leveling on uneven ground. Hinged base has tension adjustment and buffer springs to eliminate tremor or looseness. They are otherwise similar to non-rotating Series. Available for ALL models except the "H" model.

+1 on the BRM-S 9-13

Lots of people will recomend the BRM-S 6-9, but I have found that the only time I used the 6" setting was on a bench. Plus the 9" setting was a little limiting if I was shooting at something a little higher in elevation than I was. Also, I'm not really fat, but I am a bit thick and the 9" setting forced me to just get down lower than comfortable.

For real world experience (kinda), I just shot the CMG Pratical Rifle Team Challenge in Raton which is basically a Precision rifle (Sniper, targets out to 1200 yards), and Carbine (spotter, targets out to 500 yards) match and there was no way I could have used the 6"-9" model effectively. In order to get over obsticals and engage very low or very high targets I often ran my bipod out as far as 13"

Actually, that is it. I guess the BR does not apply to anything other than the 6-9 models.

I just checked my order history from midway and that is the model I have (I have 2 of them actually).

That's not the one I have. It looks like it though. Just not the same model number.

This is mine:

The difference between them is mine is spring loaded to open quickly while the others shown and linked to are made to close quickly.

Yes, I have 2 of those.

Nope, mine both are spring loaded to shoot out when you push the button. The difference seems to be the hight. The "BR" means "Bench Rest" which is the 6-9 models, the 9-16's are not bench rest models, so they are not "BR" models.

Thanks

As a long time Harris user and now a TD convert I will shed some light as to why I switched. Here is what I like about the TD:

Stronger
No wires
Swings back against rail

The down side of the TD is the cost IMHO.

Thanks, I like the looks but it doesn't look like anyone has one in stock if I wanted one. Everyone has them on back order that I could see.

They are hard to come by right now. They will also be producing these in DE color soon.

We carry the Tango Down as well as the GG&G tactical bipods. You may want to consider the GG&G since you can get them a little cheaper and they are all aluminum. IMO, the GG&G is a better made bipod, but the Tangos seem to be doing well. PM me if you are interested.

How about the Command Arms bipod compared to the Harris, Tango, etc.

The CA does not have external springs and seems to be sturdy. ANy experience with the CA?

I like those VLTOR mounts for the TD bipod legs.

TD told me to expect their bipod in FDE here soon. When I get confirmation that color is available I will take the plunge.
