Hey guys! I’m Peter and here’s my intro/gun review post. Gun review from a newbie? Yeah, why not. I’m just like you; just another random guy on the internet with an opinion that’s so important and valid that I must publish it here for the world to see. I’m no Gun Expert, but on a level of 1-10: 1 being “Susie Home Maker” and 10 being “Chuck Norris”; I’m a comfortable 4.
My experience working with guns, as in getting paid, has been a DoD Contractor for the past 10 years in the Base Supply Field. It’s not as exciting as it sounds. A good portion of that decade was locked in an armory issuing, receiving, inventorying, cleaning, acting as “Clearing Barrel Official”, and hunting down missing M16A1’s (Yeah, A1’s. I came across an armory that still maintained a Serviceable of these things in 2007; that’s USAF Space Command for ya), M16A2’s, M4 variants, GUU5P’s, and M9’s.
On a personal experience with guns I’ve obtained and utilize daily my CCW with a Sig P250 Compact 9mm. It was my first gun actually. My second gun was a Ruger 10/22. Don’t laugh, no reason on shooting rabbits and squirrels with a $0.37 round when I can do it for $0.02 right? Save the 5.56 rounds for Zombies.
On that note, and which brings me here is my recent purchase of a Bushmaster Superlight Carbon 15. Here’s my review of it so far;
I bought it for $649.99 at Sportsmen’s Warehouse locally, brand new with the Bushnell Red Dot (which now resides on my Ruger 10/22) and a spiffy carry case.
I put my ol’ trusty Aimpoint on it with some seasoned Magpul Magazines; zeroed and shot 420 rounds of Federal Green tip ammo with no issues.

After trolling around here a bit, I learned a few things to replace or investigate. Here’s what I’ve got;
I guess there’s some shotty staking work on the BCG. Here’s a picture of mine. From what I gathered, it pretty decent and I don’t need to do anything more. It looks like there is plenty of metal mushying going on to avoid anything getting loose.

But there is no staking on the CastleNut. That's ok though, I plan on replacing that rear plate for a single point sling mount. After that I'll stake it.

The only thing I've noticed so far that I don't like, is the cammo paint. Not a fan of it, but I justified the low cost to tolerate it. However, that cammo paint is already chipping around some of the business areas;
Chipping where the Charge Handle clips in to be secure.

Chipping where the Dust Cover rests while open.

Oh, and my buffer tube is the R6001 Carbine Type. I guess I'm going to hold off on replacing the Tube and BCG until things start not working properly. Unitl then I'm having a blast with it so far.

Here's a video of me Bump firing it. This was the 3rd magazine since new. My cousin on the left was trying to Bump fire his AK.
