Written/Photo Reference on LW Officer Breakage?

I well remember a fellow trainee's Colt's LW Officer's ACP breaking its recoil spring plug assy. during Basic Officer School nearly 20 years ago. And the RO explaining why it needed better aftermarket parts to even hope to keep it running.

Are there any definitive articles/photo references on this subject available?

Need this for investigative purposes, BTW; no interest in carrying a short 1911.
