I have recently noted a lot more advertisements for charities such as the Wounded Warrior Project, some of the on TV. Thus, I was interested in how much of the donations go to help those in need.

Charity Navigator is one online source for rating the charities, based on their public records.

Here are the results for 2010:

http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=531

The results are interesting, and the majority of the big names we know about seem to be doing a good job.

The lowest rated charities are:

U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation 1 stars
Cell Phones for Soldiers 1 stars
The Veterans Fund 1 stars
AdoptaPlatoon 1 stars
Help Hospitalized Veterans 1 stars
American Studies Center 1 stars
Veterans for America 1 stars
Coalition to Salute America's Heroes 0 stars
Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund 0 stars
National Veterans Services Fund, Inc. 0 stars
Wisconsin Paralyzed Veterans of America 0 stars
Shiloh International Ministries 0 stars

If you plan to donate, this information might be of use.
