View Full Version : Noveske switchblock+Centurion Rail= No go

I was assembling my new upper yesterday consisting of:

Noveske 11.5 SS Switchblock barrel
Centurion Arms 7.0 rail
Colt upper receiver
Colt barrel nut

Get the barrel nut on torqued 3 times, yadda yadda. Installed the switchblock and hammered the pin into place. As I try to install the upper section of the rail it hits the rotating drum of the switchblock.

Anyone running a switchblock barrel and Centurion rail? Me thinks I might have to go to another rail like a DD Lite or Omega X

Thanks
Kyle

I don't think there is a rail out there that will cover a Switchblock. The DD rails are very close to the barrel.

You can use a rail system that has the cutout for a FSB. The lower and side rails would extend past the Switchblock, but the top rail would stop behind it. Still gives you room to switch it.

That isn't what he is trying to do.

The front of the centurion rail is hitting the rear of the switchblock.

Im not trying to cover it. Its a 7 inch carbine rail and should fit behind the swtichblock

This is good info to know, as I was (and still may) build a 10.5" switchblocked rifle using the Centurion rail. Is it possible to clearance the rail? Take a grinder to it maybe? A picture of the interference would help me. I've also seen others use the DD Lite Rail with success.

I may do this Saturday. Do a little grinding with the Dremel.

I have a Omega X 7.0 on the way too, just to see.

My bad, I thought you were trying to fit under.

Then put the switchblock on after installing the rail.

Then put the switchblock on after installing the rail.

Tried that too. After getting the Switchblock pinned in place the drum is so tight against the rail that it wont rotate.

Ive been searching the web all day and I cant find any mention of anyone else using a Centurion rail with a switchblock barrel. Plenty of DD and Larue's though.

Looking at pics of the Centurion rails you can tell that it gets closer to a FSB than the other rails do.

Worst case I use the Omega X and I have an extra rail to go on another project.

Any update on this? I think I understand the problem now, and a little bit of grinding should be able to take care of it.

Not even bothering.

I ordered a Vltor 7" VIS. Ill use the Centurion rail for something else.

I just measured my Larue 9" rail and Centurion Arms 9" Rail

From the front of the rail to the front of the upper receiver the

Larue was 9 3/16"

Centurion was 9 4/16" (1/4")

That's nice looking Buckjay. How much does it extend past the end of the Switchblock? I'm curious about that for clearance issues.

Yeah but with the Standard 7" rail not the FSB version.

Thanks for the measurements Eurodriver

I assume there are not any rails that will completely cover the switchblock? Obviously it would have to be a rail that could be removed easily, like the Troy (which will not fit over the switchblock).

The Switchblock is about as tall as the top rail. Also if you cover the Switchblock you will not be able to switch it.

If you guys check their site, you'll notice that weapons with the VLTOR VIS rails and SWB have what seems to be a shorter rail. For instance, on a 14.5" barrel, they have a 9" rail. Without the SWB, an 11" would probably work, but the SWB takes up just enough space that the two would not be compatible on that barrel length. This is something I noticed when ordering mine, I wanted the rail to extend out closer to the muzzle brake, but wanted the SWB more, so its a compromise. I could be wrong, but this was my observation.

Yeah, I Know that. I don't really intend to have a need to switch it quickly, figured with the right rail you could remove the handgaurd in a matter of seconds, switch it, and run my suppressor. For me, a longer rail with increased length is a better trade off than being able to switch out positions based on some time sensitive need.

The Switchblock is located about when i like to grip the handgaurd, so maybe it just isn't the best option for me....seems like a higher rail/ upper combo (much like the piston guns) would make for a great setup, might even be possible to make one that would allow for the can to recess into the rail. This works great for the pistol cal. SBRs. I have the talon, 9mm upper and it is a great little package.11653
