See if you guys like this set up better.
I know a couple of us were posting our C&Rs in the other thread, but here, I'll break this thread in...
I just got this last Friday afternoon.

All shooters!
My No.4 had some varnish and stain beforehand, (so someone already touched the stock). All I did was remove this prior finish back to its natural state.
The upper handguards are walnut, and the stock is beech. Now they got a natural tone and feel to them. We sanded down the rough scratches (there were some going against the grain! , and this also took out the nasty plasticky feel the wood had).
After sanding to an ultra-fine texture, I went over the wood with seven coats of BLO. It feels good now.

The wood will darken over time. At first I wasnt too sure whether I was going to dig the two tone look, but it's not bothering me and the wood feels nice and clean.

Some pics of my Mosin Nagant M44. Izhevsk 1944 production, nothing special. Its a fun rifle, not so much for my shoulder, though. Nice to get away from the "tactical" side of the house every now and again and just plink.

Acquired these in a trade. Pair of mint condition No 4 Mk 2 Enfields. These are 1955 production "UF 55" series guns, which are the last No 4's made in the UK (at least in non-specialized form). The production tooling was evidently later shipped to Pakistan (IIRC).

I had to do a little work on thi one. Here is how that progressed. http://bobsstuffandnonsense.blogspot.com/2011/06/my-ongoing-project-1941-long-branch-no.html
This one was not a military contract rifle. it was built by BSA for the commercial market and converted to a Target rifle by Fulton's some time in the late 20s. It is a BSA No.1 MkIII*.
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q218/Rumpelhardt/102_6238.jpg
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q218/Rumpelhardt/102_6235.jpg
Both rifles are currently fitted with Parker Hale aperture rear sights. The sights on the BSA No.1 are original to the rifle and were fitted by Fulton's when the rifle was new. The sights on the Long Branch No.4 were installed by me. Not a difficult proposition because they were designed to use existing bolt holes so no drilling and taping or permanent modifications of any kind were needed.

My small milsurp collection.
First off, 1954 Springfield M1 Garand all matching, and 1943 Remington M1903A3 all matching. 1943 American Fork & Hoe bayonet on the 03A3 and Utica Cutlery bayonet on the Garand. Next is my low one million serial number Winchester M1 Carbine with a Greek Carbine bayonet. It's a typical post war mix master, but came with it's DCM paperwork. Next is my 1950 Long Branch Enfield No 4 Mk 1* that's all matching. Following that is my all matching AX 41 K98k Mauser, and my early Nagoya Type 99 Arisaka that's all matching. Last but not least is my Finnish Tikkakoski M27 Mosin Nagant, and my New England Westinghouse Finn capture Mosin Nagant.

The Mauser is a 1938 k98 with all matching #'s but is missing the cleaning rod and sling. Only the factory stamps with no export or Russian capture markings. A repro sling and cleaning rod are on thier way.
The Enfield is a 1918 BSA No1 MkIII* with all matching #'s (post war sling is also inbound).
The same guy who I traded for these also has a M1917 (P-17) that is in mint condition with all matching #'s also. The guy is a freak about #'s and condition of the rifles he picked up. He would function test them, clean them, and store them.
I love these damn things too much.

Not a Gibbs, but was purchased from a local builder.
The barrel is a Criterion, but the receiver, Redfield mount & rings and stock (sans the camo tape & Eagle stock pack) are all correct.
The scope is, technically, not correct. It's a Lyman Alaskan 3x with the fine crosshairs and a "dot" in the center.
Not sure on the sling, but it works for the limited shooting I've done with it so far.
It's been too long since I took pictures of my Jungle Carbine. Still too snowy for shooting here but a perfect day for some new pictures.

Speaking of full length rifles that were cut down:

Not a very good pic, but It's an 1897 dated Carcano M1891 that seems to have been cut down to carbine length at some point, either overseas or here in the US.
Here is my latest Mil-surp. It is a 1898 Krag which I believe was cut down to look like a carbine version.
Looks similar to an 1898 Krag I found at a gunshow that had its barrel cut down, a recoil pad added, and had a similar rear sight added:

I won't lie I find that stock and magazine hideous and intriguing at the same time. What all have you done to it and what type of mags does it take?
Sent from my clutch hand while riding a wheelie....
Yes, it's not as sleek as the original stock for sure. It's the Archangel OPFOR stock that takes their proprietary 5 or 10 round mags. I have to say that is a very functional kit. I also added a Timney trigger and tacked on a Mosin Plus Ind. muzzle brake. I've gotten sub MOA 5 shot groups at 100 with S&B 174 grn match. I'm on the lookout for a hex receiver 91/30 to keep as original

Can you return it to original or do you have to permanently modify it? What scope mount are you using?
Sent from my clutch hand while riding a wheelie....
The archangel stock is a drop in kit, no mods required to the barreled action - can be returned to stock form. I'm running the rock solid industries scope mount which does require the receiver to be drilled and tapped (and their bent bolt kit too).

New to me 1942 Savage Enfield No 4 Mk 1* sporter rescue. Picked this 1942 Savage Enfield up at a local pawn shop a few weeks ago. The stock had been cut down, foresight cover removed, and the rear peep sight had been notched out. Replaced the stock set, foresight cover and screw with replacement ones from Sarco, and a milled rear sight from eBay and now she's back to her former glory. I was really impressed with the Sarco stock set especially considering the cost. Price was good, and it included all the rear stock hardware that was nicer than the ones that were originally on it. Headspace and muzzle wear all check good, and bore is in great shape. Bolt and action are numbers matching, and it included a non numbers matching magazine.

Thanks brother.
At the time of that picture, I was living in Italy. I sold that particular k98k but still have all that gear. Most of that gear was in fact screen used in the amazing series 'Band Of Brothers' and before that, Saving Private Ryan.

My latest acquisition, SMLE No 1 MK III* with matching numbers on receiver, bolt, stock, and bayonet boss. Number under the rear sight does not match and is the earlier, windage adjustable type. The barrel number also does not match, but the barrel is very nice.
Two new recent aquisitions. 5.8 million M1 Garand, and a 1942 BSA No 4 Mk 1.

On your Enfield, that's not a grenade sight, it's a volley sight. It's a somewhat unique find.

My circa 1942/1943 WWII Pacific theater, all Remington 1903A3. The receiver dates to @ late 1942. The barrel is a NOS 2-grove dated 12-43.
The scant stock is a refinished surplus piece accurate for the time and use, as is the WWI era helmet. The M1 bayonet & sheath are original from 1942.
The sling is a modern-made exact reproduction to an original unit even down to the original "MILSCO 1942" stamping.
The ammo belt is also a WWII US reproduction, as is the reprinted TM 9-1270 ordnance manual (though reprinted from a 1944 manual.)
Every other piece of this rifle is built from new in wrap, new old stock Remington parts dated from @1942/43 (WWII).
https://i.imgur.com/nsEzK1p.jpg
This setup would have been used from @ Dec. '41 through about mid-1943 across the Pacific theater with both the USMC as well as a number of US Navy shore-based units.
Beyond 1943, the M1903A3 was almost universally replaced by the M1 Garand, as was the WWI helmet by the US M1 helmet.

A little different that what people think of, but it is an antique military bolt gun. According to the cartouches on the stock, this Remington 513-T was used by both the USMC, and the US Army over the course of it's lifetime as a trainer during the last 60 years or so...
Me NOT being a young trainee anymore, I'm not liking the target sights, so I'll be getting scope mounts put on it pretty soon. I will say that a .22 lr is pretty quiet out of a 27" barrel.
