I was thinking about another SBR upper. I already have one spare. Then I was thinking for another $300 I could have a complete SBR. I poked around with a 6833, LMT or BCM SBR in mind. Then I came across an old friend the M203. I dont need one but have alway wanted one. :D

For those of you with one would you do it again?

WHY? Like what would you do with it?

It would be for fun. I am sure I would buy and shoot training rounds.

I want one of their rail-mount 203s. And I will have one before it's over.

I had one. Found no use for it. I only ended up shooting it 10 times in the year I owned it.

I have one and found it to be a lot of fun. Getting smart on reloading your own shells and rolling your own makes them a lot more interesting. If you are just going to buy and shoot chalk practice rounds then you may be disappointed.

I would get a suppressor for my rifle first, but the M203 can be a fun addition. Is it practical? Not really. Is it fun and a good project to expand your appreciation for small arms ordnance and something very different to add to your weapons toolbox? Absolutely.

LMT costs are far less than the Colt models and are built to same milspec, so I would go with one of theirs. I have seen a KAC one for sale once for a little bit more than a LMT, but already had the LMT and could not justify two M203s. Get the rail mount. I also purchased a standalone stock for it so it isn't always attached to my rifle...which made it a standalone weapon when I want, or a rifle accessory. Go LMT, get the reloading information, follow it and work up safely and enjoy!

Thanks. I can't own a can here in VT. I would get one I 5.56 and .22 if I could. Everything else is GTG. What do you reload?

The rail grabber is the way to go. It is even more fun than I thought it would be.

The orange Tang powder training rounds. Makes a nice cloud of smoke.

I love it. I didn't know they still made Tang. I bet the ants like it too.

Interested to as to what all you can shoot? I was thinking smoke and powder were about the only choice, but if there are more options I am more interested.

Mr. 40mm Randy is whose web site got me interested 10+ years ago. He offers a few inserts for lethal options, a 12ga and two 22 inserts, one is an 18 shot one is a 9 shot.

I want to own one some day too. Here's a link to somebody with lots of good info and a good forum as well: http://www.freewebs.com/grog/ You will have to register to view the forum but you won't find more info in one spot. You can load up 40mm buckshot rounds, rubber buckshot rounds, cheeto puffs, actual grenade rounds (depending on state and local laws regarding explosives. Each round will be a registered NFA item and require its own $200 stamp plus the price of the round ($500+ last I heard if you can even find them). You will need to send the cases into the BATFE to verify that they no longer exist and can be taken off the registry.), flare rounds and many others I cant think of. You are NOT restricted on the accordance you can fire with these. They are quite versatile.

LMT's proprietary rail mounted launcher sucks ass and so do all the HK launchers.

They hang too low on the weapon and take up too much space.

With the advent of the DD RIS II and KAC URX, rail mounted launchers are a thing of the past.

A regular M203 can be mounted and still have free float and hugs nice and tight to the host gun if you use the two above rail systems.

How does the 203 mount with a DD or URX rail in place? Does it interface with the internal aspect of the rail or directly to the barrel? I seem to recall the DD RIS II requiring an adapter be installed at the rear for use with the 203.

I was thinking more along the lines of the old style M203 handguards.

What personal experiences/ownership of the rail mount LMT have led you to that conclusion?

My LMT is mounted to a URX in the carbine above, is very close to the bottom of the rail and has zero effect on my free float.

Even though it is just a toy to me, I am curious as to how you came to your comments.

DSA makes both versions as well. Was gung ho to get a 203 but really want a stand alone like the B&T version Remington is selling it as a less lethal gun but its still swiss made. If you don't like the HK you really won't like Berettas, I had tougher toy guns as a kid.

Im planning on putting a m203 on my m4 look alike thing. I have an m79, so I have to do a 203.

In the end though grenade launchers are pointless without the good stuff, but they are cool.

Lots of different 40mm ammo is available for M203s beside the chalk training ammo including- parachute flares in several colors, star clusters, smoke in several colors, rubber bullets, buckshot, CS, baton, and more.

Why do you have a rail mounted launcher attached to the bottom of a URX?

The URX was specifically made to free float a regular M203!

What's wrong with LMTs rail mounting system for other rails?

Because that is a backward ass approach to setting up a gun for an M203.

If you decide you need an M203, you get the M203 first and then get a DD RIS 2 or a URX for the rail.

You do not mount a M203 on the bottom of a Centurion, SWS, DD Lite, etc or other non removable bottom rail.
