Now if they can just invent some clear flip type lens caps. Hell I'll even settle for more durable lens cap bands on the current version.

I like the idea of a 2 MOA T1 for magnified use, but I really don't think it's worth trading for. Even when hunting with a T1 and magnifier, I don't think I'd personally see that much of an advantage. I don't shoot for tight groups that often and even then, I can get almost as tight at 200 meters with my current T1 and magnifier as I can with an ACOG 4x23.

If I was given the option when buying, I'd go for the 2 MOA, but it's not worth taking a hit on a current model just to get the new model. Maybe it's different for everyone else, but I don't see much difference in my results between my T1 and my M4 that I recently sold.

-- I say this now, but I'll likely be ordering one as well!

Watrdawg
01-17-12, 12:57

jonconsiglio
01-17-12, 13:36
Prices should all be the same. It's not like a 2 MOA dot is that much better. Look at the M3 with the 2 or 4 MOA option, I don't think there's a price difference.

I wouldn't mind one for use with a magnifier though. I've actually considered buying another M4 or even an EXPS-3 for that reason, but I just don't see that much of an advantage if you already own a 4 MOA... For my needs, I don't mean to speak for anyone else.

Thank God I didn't order the 4MOA one, yet.

I've ran 4 MOA aimpoints for years. I purchased a 2 MOA M4 off the EE a few weeks ago and the difference in zeroing, and the ease of hitting, on a 5.5 bull at 100 is night and day for me. And I'm getting no fall off in performance on running drills at 50 yds and in on the speed of the 2 MOA vs the 4.

I will absolutely be adding a 2 MOA T1. In my small world, that'll be the ultimate in reflex sight for my uses.

Food for thought, a 2moa Aimpoint won't help you if you're a 8/10/12+ moa shooter.

It's just like the guys who want a 2moa 1911, 99% them will never achieve that kind of accuracy in their lifetime.

MistWolf
01-21-12, 12:32
Agreed, 4moa for up close work is fine for me. 100yd shots with a T1 isn't on my agenda

It's not that I don't plan to use my carbine at 100 yards or more (I will be shooting 100+) it's that the 4moa dot isn't that much of a hindrance. I have shot groups at 100 yards that are smaller than the width of the front sight

one
01-21-12, 12:47
I have to qual at 100 with my rifles. I've always done so with the T1. I've also never failed to achieve a perfect score. And I've successfully done so against the 5.5" bull that Vicker's uses as the focal point for his accuracy foundation.

But once I got hold of an Aimpoint M4 with the 2 MOA I realized how much easier it was to do so.

So, yes, I routinely shoot at 100 for both work qual and in anticipation of maintaining a proper zero for an upcoming carbine class. Once I started zeroing to the 100 yd zero the entire course at work became a cake walk for me. Same goes for one of my main shooting friends from a neighboring agency.

Previously I had ran a 50 yd zero based on the recommendations of the dept. instructors. At that time we shot at 75 and 100 for "familiarization". Then a couple years back they started counting the hits at 75 and 100. But they still recommend the 50 yard zero. For that I have no explanation.

Since actually running a 2 MOA I have had no problems hitting at the same speed as I previously was with the 4 MOA. I can't understand why anyone would want to argue against a 2.

In my experience with this 2 = 4 when I need it to and has the benefit of running like a 2 when it best benefits a longer distance strike.

Jake'sDad
01-21-12, 12:54
Even still 100 yds with a T1 4 MOA is not difficult.....

Absolutely. The group with a 2 MOA is just a little smaller for me.

My 14.5 GP gun will always wear a 4 MOA but I'll pick up a couple of the 2 MOA's from Grant for other builds, and maybe for a bolt action truck gun.

ST911
01-21-12, 13:29
For those contemplating distances, especially professional gun carriers: Take a walk around various points that you may utilize a firearm at. Mark off distances from doors to counters, corners of buildings, distances across parking lots, lengths of yards and properties, etc. You would be surprised at how far apart some things are. Short: While 100yds is a statistically unlikely distance to be engaged at in self defense or LE work, it is nonetheless a very real distance you work within in the operational environment. I have hallways at my schools, and spaces of open fields that exceed that by a quite a stretch.

The difference between a 2 MOA dot and 4 MOA is most apparent under static, square-range shooting. In a lethal confrontation, you won't ever know the difference between the 2 MOA dot and the 4 MOA dot, as confrontational dynamics will turn you into a 8-10-12+ MOA shooter.

Few shooters who are going to buy the T1/H1 will be able to truly produce the 2 MOA difference between the models.

Let's be realistic.

Previously I had ran a 50 yd zero based on the recommendations of the dept. instructors. At that time we shot at 75 and 100 for "familiarization". Then a couple years back they started counting the hits at 75 and 100. But they still recommend the 50 yard zero. For that I have no explanation.

We've discussed and debated the merits of the zeros in other threads. The short version favoring the 50 is that it works for the overwhelming majority of folks using the guns. Perhaps more significantly, it is often the farthest distance that the LCD can reasonably be expected to shoot with sufficient accuracy/precision to determine where the gun is hitting.

If someone can't make accurate hits at 100 or 200 yards (4 MOA ten shot groups, for example) with a 4 MOA Aimpoint, then there are much better things you can do with $600 than buy a slightly smaller red dot.

As long as I can hit a melon size target at 100, I am the giggles. If not quick release the dot and throw on the scope...

Or use a mounting solution that allows you to transition from one to the other without adding or removing anything whilst bullets are flying.

I stopped by the range on the way home this evening and, proned out, at 100 I put 20 rounds consistently into a 5.5" black bull. Either 4 MOA or 2 MOA Aimpoint is easily capable of doing this. And I do it with both 2 and 4 routinely.

I did four five shot sets. Two off the magazine and two from higher up balanced on my elbows.

A 4moa dot is NO problem at all even at 600 yards.

The 2moa is more precise, no question about it.

At 600 yards Im making upper torso/headshots.

If you turn it down to setting 5 or 6 it is most definately manageable

Since you are quite the photo/videographer I'd really like to see some videos of you making 600 yd headshots with a 4moa RDS. "A 4moa dot is NO problem at all even at 600 yards. " I seem to have a problem doing it and must be doing something wrong. Please advise with some video tutorial please...

Having a hard time buying this at 600 yards with an unmagnified 4moa aimpoint also. Want to give you the benefit of the doubt, could you explain further?

Not BCM however what I think he's trying to say that the target is able to be seen and be hit. Not really everytime but in a range session with enough rounds he can see it and when the round does what he wants he can hit it. Not sure if any of you get what im saying and its just my interpretation of his statement but its what I picked up.

I concluded that by the context of the conversation and because I understand the concept. I'll let him speak on his own behalf though.

Larue Tactical has had them out for a while and gandrtactical as well. I got one from Larue with LE discount for $630 with LT660 mount and all the Larue goodies too. Can't beat that mount.

That's the route I'm probably going to go. I have an H-1 w/Larue on one of my rifles, but one of my ARs needs a new optic. Got to love Aimpoint + Larue!
