View Full Version : #1Buck in 20 ga.
Given the excitement of Federal's #1buck 12 guage load, what are the thoughts about this load in 20 ga?
I found this link on another forum:

Looks promising.
Note sure it will group as well as the Flightcontrol stuff, but it's likely a better choice than the standard #4 buck that is about all that is available in 20 gauge.

Who loads #4 buck in 20 gauge? All I've ever seen is #3 and #2.
Federal lists buckshot in 2, 3, 4 sizes on their web site for the 20. The seem to be the only major guys doing 4buck. They market it under their Personal Defense label I think.

Remington ONLY sells #4 buck, I have only seen #4 in Federal and Winchester at the stores.
The #3 or #2 buck is loaded as a 3" shell from what I recall (Federal and Winchester). This is a bit too stout in a 20" Remington 870 Youth gun like what I am using around the house.
That company listed in the post above is the ONLY #1 buck I found anywhere.

Ahhh, wasn't looking under the personal defense section.

Federal loads #3 in 2 3/4" and #2 in 3", and Winchester loads #3 in 2 3/4".

I was typing too fast, that should say #3 and #4, which is pretty standard in 2 3/4" loads.
Anyway, magnum 20 gauge ammo defeats the purpose IMHO as it kicks more than low recoil 12 gauge while not being as effective.
It could make running a load close to low recoil 12ga reliable in a semi.
