After quite a bit of reading I have been thinking about re-barreling my stag model 8 (piston) to 300 blackout. After comparing my options I think I have come to the conclusion that out of 6.5 / 6.8 / 7.62x35 / 7.62x39 / 7.62x40 the blackout will be my choice.
I like the idea of having to change nothing but the barrel. I have plenty of 5.56 brass I can cut down and reload.
My question is if I get a 300 blackout barrel where should I start with gas port size on the barrel with the stag piston setup?
Just sell off your upper & buy what you want. It will be less grief in the end.

If thats what it comes down to I will just purchase / build another upper. I was just hoping that it would be simple.
My idea for the build is to hybrid the best of the AR and the AK into one rifle.
It would be if you had a DI system , I know the port whole for a 300 BLK is larger then 5.56mm barrels so it might not fuction properly with a piston.

I'm going to do my homework, might just get another upper and assemble with an adjustable piston system and start small and work up.
My next question is: How worthwhile is the 300blk over a 5.56. I cannot run a suppressor in CT unless I have a preban lower which I have not decided on yet. Would I be better off investing my $$ on another project? I have searched and read about it enough to make my head spin but have not fired one.
