I'm getting setup to reload, and I've been considering an alternate caliber to 5.56. Overall, I think that the 5.56 serves me well, but I'd like something that launches a heavier bullet with similar ballistics at medium ranges. After researching the 6.8 SPC, it seems that the 6.8 duplicates 5.56 ballistics more closely than any other alternatives given the common selection of bullet weights. Quality magazines such as PRI also seem to be more available than those for the Grendel. The 300blk doesn't have a flat enough trajectory with enough sectional density for my tastes.
However, most of the barrel choices that I have seen for the 6.8 are stainless and designed for slower shooting precision work. I'm wanting a hard use chrome lined barrel that I can shoot in carbine classes.....basically, a heavier hitting 5.56 replacement. Does anyone make such a barrel? Thanks.
