View Full Version : KAC pic's?
I'm in need of some pics of the new hotness at KAC. Am I just stupid, or did no one document the new releases from KAC?
KAC had a no photo policy. I saw some folks breaking this. When we talked with Trey and Kevin I politely put the lens cap on my camera (though I had a media pass).
Hence you're not seeing many photos out of certain booths. Surefire was much the same way.
this is one of those curiosity things but why would they stop people from taking pictures

Company preference and ITAR. The amount of asian airsoft reps running around at the show was pretty bad. They're also running around with rulers taking dimensions to go back and start producing copies.
Mark Fingar from Larue asked me not to take photos of their guns and I obliged. Generally even with a press pass the first thing I asked was "is it alright to get photos?"
Ah. I see. So an official outlet will give us the photos and coverage we want down the road?
Alright, I'll wait...and by that I mean KAC needs to post pics. Yesterday.
:D
Thanks for the fill-in
Dude - I would have let you take some pics.
Chen should have a few since I looked down from a meeting once and saw him taking a few.
The photo policy is 2 fold:
First and Foremost with non US Citizens/Residents - we have an ITAR concern with people taking detailed picturers that can reveal proprietary data.
Secondly unless one has a good camera and a clear view - the pictures turn out poorly.
This year we had a media release CD with several different angles, and various aspects for our weapons line up.

D'oh I should have asked.
I'm sure Chen does have some. Kevin I would have asked but I didn't want to push my luck.
Secondly unless one has a good camera and a clear view - the pictures turn out poorly.
Yeah that wouldn't have been a concern regarding my camera. ;)
Next year I'll grab some for sure. Thanks. The 14.5 looks great, and I'll be ordering one of those uppers to pin for a non-NFA SR-15 lower.

FYI this year accredited Media will be allowed to take pictures upon approval of Senior Management. Depending upon the volume of traffic in the booth will depend on how in depth we can be.

Good thing I haven't shitcanned my URX IIs yet. This might be the year to do it.
I've been waiting for a URX 3.1 in 10 3/4''.
But I'll see what this URX 4 business is...
Is the URX4 a one piece rail, as in no removable bottom half?

That's what I've been waiting for as well. The only rail which would sway me to upgrade from the RAS on my Commando. Here's to hoping the 4 provides that option in the 10" range.

Stickman has confirmed the SR300 with a pic on FB. The picture was a tight shot on the receiver, showing the 300 Blackout engraving, so no other details on the configuration.
KAC on the Keymod bandwagon? Awesome!

Does the URX 4 mount the same as the other URX rails, or have they finally switched to a more user friendly mounting system?

Kevin stated elsewhere that the URX4 will have an integrated barrel nut and will come with a wrench.
Anyone have any pics yet? In my mind... it looks like the NSR.
Anyone have any pics yet? In my mind... it looks like the NSR.
I agree. It's gotta be pretty similar. Probably the only difference will be the attachment method.
They may have keymods at locations other than the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, but that's a wild guess.
Kevin stated elsewhere that the URX4 will have an integrated barrel nut and will come with a wrench.
Wow, I may have to replace my URX II soon then. This sounds like it's going to be an awesome rail. Can't wait for pics.

Now that fellas is the first good news of 2013.

I'm having a hard time seeing what it offers over existing rails in the field.
If its a one piece tubular rail with continuous 12:00 rail, covered with keymods.. sounds exactly like the NSR.
I'm more exited about Geissele's MK4 (which looks like a one piece URX 3 sans integrated front sight).

I've been away for a while, but have seen the NSR rail. I've also seen the little bolt-on keymod short rail sections with the advertised captive screws. I say "advertised" because I've yet to see a pic of the back side of these keymod accessories. Perhaps I missed it totally, but I never saw a detailed pic on Noveskes site. Someone show me a pic!

I hear you Jay. The URX4 will appeal to some, but not all. The biggest news is probably the easier install due to the integrated nut and included wrench. Personally, I'm hoping to see a midlength URX 3.1. I prefer the two piece rail design and fixed rail sections.
Kevin posted this on TOS
" Has Integrated Barrel nut and will come with its own wrench.
See the rest at SHOT...
Price is competitive."

Yeah I suppose if the new mounting method is done well they might transition the rest of the URX rails eventually.
I'm already all in on the URX (have wrench, block, and a bosch heat gun) but its quite an investment for someone who just wants to do one install.
Forgot to mention that they will also be introducing a line of keymod accessories.
I'm ready for SHOT Show scoop! What else is KAC hiding up their sleeves?
There are pics on TOS, sorry to lazy at the moment to copy them here. That out of the way, my anticipation had dulled for the IV given my use and I'd prefer an appropriate length 3.1 to put on my 11.5" rifle. If not, I'll open my mind to the Geiselle and break from the KAC theme which has taken over my inventory.

I agree. I would like to hear what if anything this offers over the NSR. I'm also interested to see what the dimensions and weight are. One of the main reasons I went with the URX II was because it was one of the slimmest quad railsout there and it fit my small hands well.

Hey, the way this is going all of us are going to be into airsoft... because even if they somehow fail to take our arms, they will succeed in making ammunition and magazines nearly impossible to buy at reasonable prices, essentially making the guns we do have not usable anyway. In those asian countries that you mention, they even run IPSC with airsoft..... probably will not be long here till that is the case....
It's just a wish.
Damn. Was hoping I'd skipped over something at some point.

Interesting flash hider.
Also, looks like a new take on the hand stop. I suppose they figure with the narrow diameter you're going to be wrapping your thumb over the top and pulling against yourself.
So we should be able to use the KAC keymod accessories on the NSR rail correct?

Jack, as pictures are slow coming, can you give us a rundown of what KAC officially introduced at SHOT?
This has my attention. It may be just the thing I need for my first generation SR-15E3.
What's the weight on these?
When can we expect to see the 5.56mm MAMS available for purchase? My dream rifle right now next to an ECC, is your 14.5 inch SR15 with a pinned MAMS.
The new SR-30 is pretty sweet, especially the 8 inch SBR. URX 4 looked cool, i wish they would have had a hands on version.

The last I heard was that LPRs were a few months out. KAC is at the mercy of Krieger's ability to keep up with demand for the barrels, so don't shoot the messenger!
I can't, as I don't have the rifle to shoot you with :suicide: Well, to be honest this would not be my first, however, I never tell how many. I am very much like a chick :D:D

Based on where you live, if a ban were to happen, you could always order an upper instead of the complete rifle.
That is true. I just hope I can get the KAC. I know that Larue, and JP are now sending out just lowers and will send uppers later. Perhaps KAC can adopt a similar policy to speed it up. That makes a lot of sense.

It wouldn't have a permenantly attached suppressor.
Shorter length, ability to choose your own suppressor. Even more of an advantage if you already have one that can run .300BLK.

Based on the video if the URX4 goes around the suppressor, I would think that a QD one would not work (in reference to something like a AAC 762SDN6), it would have to be threaded. Perhaps Mr. Boland or Mr. Leuba would be able to advise. On a similar note I am rather interested to know the inside diameter of the URX4 to see if an Ops 12th can would fit under it in a similar fashion.

That's what I was thinking. The gun Jack showed in the video as well as the one Costa was holding are both covered by the rail. I definitely see why you would want two stamps on a short rail variant. But on the longer version, integrally suppressed with one stamp seems like the way to go.

I'm not 100% sure when some of the stuff will be available. As we need to sit down and look at the potential for a ban, then prioritize manufacturing and assembly.

Kevin,
While I am not really fretting a ban anytime soon, I would like to know about the progress of the sr25 ecc line as I just placed an order.
When KAC has a chance after shot to sit down and prioritize manufacturing, will there be any chance that KAC will send out lowers before the complete rifle is assembled?
I have read where Larue is doing that and while I'm sure it's an extra hassle it would be a way to get more lowers out there prior to a ban.

Prior to the recent issues, we had been planning on offering a SR-15 14.5 with Pinned on MAMS and an upper, however we are running balls to the walls on getting guns out now, and adding that is going to be a wait and see.

Sorry for the repeat question, but this may have been missed. Can you give us any info on the 3.1 midlength rail? Are these already in production? Shipping soon? Or a few months out? Thanks, I've been waiting on these for months. Glad to hear they've officially made the product lineup.

Maybe I'm missing something, but would this mean you could pin a 12.5" barrel with a MAMs for 16.1" OAL?
I have to say - some of my favorite times this SHOT was at the Knights booth. I got the opportunity to meet Mr. Knight and view his collection of sniper rifles. He reviewed them all and shared stories of their details, usage, problems and other stuff as well as how he found some of them and how we could do the same.
Super classy and a great representative for not only KAC but the industry in general.

I don't believe you could, because overall length does not in this case equate to length added.

Threads are usually 0.625" (5/8").. so you'd need a 13.125" barrel.
I'm thinking about getting one of those 13.7" mid-length barrels Noveske did a run of and pinning the 5.56 MAMs if thats the case.
You could also have a 6920 barrel or something cut down to 13" and with a crush washer or some shims you could easily bring it up to 16" before pinning.
Decisions decisions.

Not sure how I mixed that up, bad day.
I forgot about the Noveske 13.7's, although I'm guessing a 14.5" would be easier to deal with/find.

Was there ever a parts number issued to it? I really want to pick that rifle up in the next few months, God willing there isnt a ban.

I believe a 13.25" would sit flush in a 12.5" URX III (similar to how the 11.5" looks in the URX II mid length).
Definitely considering having a 16" carbine barrel cut down.

Can someone, anyone post detailed pics of the reverse side of a keymod accessory? I've never been able to find pics of exactly how engagement is accomplished. I know keymod screws are captive, and have a pretty good idea, but would like to see detailed pics. Specifically wondering why the keymod rails have female slots/ports that are key shaped? Why is the keyhole shape even necessary? Understandably you don't want the mounted accessories to rotate/move. Perhaps this is the sole reason?

I emailed lawman's two days ago and they said the mams were not available yet. Did things change in two days ?
Just reread all posts and did not see when the urx4 rail was going to be available either.
Is now the time to start emailing and calling for parts ? or wait a bit more.
Hmm - now if I had to take a guess on who was correct.
Me the guy who does the price sheets etc. or someone who is not in KAC...
L&S is incorrect if they told you that. Tim has supplied them the most recent price sheet, so I am unsure what the issue is there.
URX4 - most likely in June as right now we are scrambling to build guns and suppressors.

If you have one on order, it will most likely have the qd cups on the lower. I think KAC would make an official announcement before a change like that.

Jack, the phasing out of integrated QD cups has been in the works for a while and my understanding was that they would be eliminated as the inventory was depleted. Are we getting close to that point? Meaning, will we be seeing the endplate adapter fitted lowers shipping soon?

KAC keymod accessories should fit any other keymod rails. The keymod offset sights won't work only because the NSR doesn't have connection points at 45°.

Looks like the 762 QDC and QDC/CQB changed quite a bit from the 2012 catalog. I was 99% sure of going with the QDC for my soon to be here ECC, as the 2012 showed a ~5db difference between the CQB and full size can and only a 1oz / 1" OAL difference. Looks like the CQB shrunk and the full size grew, also looks like the flash hider prongs are gone now.
Can I get the low down on the 2013 versions of the QDC / CQB so I can make the right decision.
I had an interesting thought: would the new 762 suppressors be able to handle more powerful cartridges, such as the 300 win mag?

Though I don't think running the QDC/CQB on a .300WM is a great idea, but the 762QDC was designed to be a dual 7.62NATO/.300WM suppressor.

Well I think those rails like a big improvement over what's out there, with the 7 faces of keyholes.
Question on the Keymod system: I read that the Vltor version (unlike the AI) protects against counter-recoil. How does it do that? At the end of the thinner section, does it open up again on the inside to secure the accessory screw in place so that it can't slide backwards?

Aluminum.
Carry over from the LMT MWS pic thread: Have you figured out what suppressor you are going to run on the ECC?
I really haven't yet. I didn't want to clutter the mws thread with a response, and then I forgot to make a reply.
Anyways, I am really up in the air on my decision. On one hand I have had great results with my surefire 762ss which is making me lean toward the socom 762 for my ecc.
However, KAC making the mams brake available to civilians is a strong point in the case for the kac qdc can. In addition to the mams in the kac thread pattern, one is going to be released in 5/8x 24 which would let me mount a kac suppressor to almost any .30 cal barrel. That was something I was worried about when planning this next purchase, I see a 300blk in my future so this new can will need to be good for that as well. The qdc suppressor is about 1" shorter in length than the full size surefire with similar suppression from what I understand.
I have a while to wait on my ecc so in the mean time I am going to be on the lookout for reviews on both the kac qdc and the surefire 762 socom. I think both are so new that there are not many in civilian hands yet, and I really would like to see what others have to say prior to making a purchase.
Update: installation is done!

I honestly can say it will be the new king of muzzle devices. It beats the battlecomp no question. Side blast is similar to an A2. There is no ping or snap like a battlecomp. A nice thump like the triple tap.

Hello Richard. No ETA yet on the MAMS or the URX4. My guess is that we won’t see them until summer due to the large amount of rifles orders at KAC as they have focused production on complete rifles at this time.
This is the email I got back from lawmans this morning. I am putting nsr rails on all my guns and wanted to know if there was any kind of eta on my order as of yet. Looks like the mams and urx4 are taking a backseat to production for a while.
I am waiting to get a heat gun to remove the urx2 that I have on my Kac ATM and was considering waiting a bit if they were going to ship soon. I hope this helps, we just have to be patient

Any chance that the SR-30SD would be availible as an upper only, with no can, ie no stamps? Would be nice for already SBRed lowers and form 1 suppressors.

Yes.
They're coming

KevinB,
Soooo...... Are those KeyMod off set iron sights I see on your hand guard? I'm building a KeyMod rifle now and may need a set of those.

That's pretty funny. :p
As in a "Knight" hand guard.
Didn't realy scope out the guy snuggled up to the stock, but I suppose if your into Kevlar beards and idol worship then more power to you.
I was skimming before I put the son to bed, so I Failed PID but dd find out the NSR hand guards may yield to a set of Knights version. Since neither is in stock now, it's just more notes to take.
Dude,
Yes they are, (Costa not me shooting, I do not yet have URX4 in my wardrobe).
I'm in NoVa now if you want to link up, (its a little closer than TVille to you these days).
I believe thats a KAC pan flute.
What is the inside diameter of the URX IV?

I would like to know this as well. My suppressor measures 1.375" and I am considering the URX-4 for my SBR project.

ID is just over 1.5".
HOWEVER, be aware that keymod accessories will protrude into the ID.
At this point I would not use a suppressor that was wider than ~1.3" if you want to put locking covers on the tube.

You might need double ear protection if my son's around. I'll be in DC the first week of April with the family. We have a loose scheaduale, but HH6 can be a bulldog about having her time. My ongoing gig has sit for time off and this is half of what I get for the whole year. Otherwise, I'd take you up on it.
I'm up in the air between the URX4, Noveske and the Giessle's right now. Definatly will need the off set KeyMod sights. I left some IC comments over on LF for you. Let me know just how stupid I am if you have a chance.:(
You have to move closer to your Staffer due to Sequestration? Or did Failure2 stop drive a hard bargin to come aboard? You moving was the cost.

I wonder how the 10" rail would look on a 14.5" barrel?
I'll just leave this right here....

Any idea what the diameter of the inside of the barrel nut will be on the urx4? I have a barrel with a pined Vortex on it. Will that fit through the nut?

The URX 4 has an integral barrel nut. You will have to pull your gas block.

What's the weight on the the various length URX4s? Trying to determine whether I should replace the URX II on my SR-15E3.
I should have been more specific. I hav a pinned in vortex flash hider. Will I be able to fit the flash hider through the barrel nut?

I think his point was that you'll have to pull the gas block off no matter what. You can't pull the gas block without removing the pinned flash hider.

Jack, are you at liberty to explain how this indexes to the upper with an integral barrel nut?

There is a KAC TV episode coming out shortly about the evolution of the URX line, so I think it will be ok to give a little explanation.
The bare barrel is slid into the upper and the URX4 is threaded onto the upper receiver barrel nut threads to hand-tight. The amount of offset from the 12:00 rail to the upper receiver rail is noted and compared to the included shim sizes. The URX4 is removed and the shims are installed (dropped over barrel to index between the barrel extension shoulder and the URX4). The URX4 is put back on to hand tightness and position is verified to be correct. The URX4 is then tightened to achieve alignment of the 12:00 rail with the upper receiver rail to specified torque. The barrel gas block/tube and muzzle device are then reinstalled.

Thank you for the explanation. I figured it must use shims if the nut is integral to the rail.
If I am way late on this then my apologies.
But the URX4 rails are up on KAC's sight now.

Just listed in products or available in the shop? Can't navigate their site as easily on my Blackberry, and blocked at work. Do you have a link?

No just on the sight. Not on the shop.

Urx4 is being finalized for production.
Typos brought to you via Tapatalk and autocorrect.
Will it be possible for the rail to cover a lo pro gas block? I'm not sure but from the description that F2S gave it sounds to me that you won't be able to have the rail overhang the gas block if you have to first install the urx4 then install the gas block. Or am I just crazy?
If this is an obvious answer that I am missing then my apologies.

You're just crazy bro. But that's ok.

I mostly finalized my build so I guess I'll be waiting in line for the release. Now just need to figure out the muzzle device. Keep flirting with a 5.56 MAMS, but will likely end up with a BCM BCMGUNFIGHTER Compensator MOD 0-5.56(perm attached:mad:) and find a BCG.

Sorry I missed this.
It is made to allow a low-profile gasblock to fit under the rail.
You do, however, need to use a set-screw GB, which can be tightened through the keymod holes in the 6:00 of the rail, whereas it is nigh impossible to drive taper pins through.
Or difficult
Imaging Jack, Casey and I all twisting and bending something to get it to fit, and we only got one in...
There is a method to our madness please be patient.
Jack/Kevin,
Could you guys provide exact ID demensions for the URX4? I've got a 1.5" suppressor (Ops Inc M4S) that will only stick into the rail about a half inch if I go with the 10" rail...wondering how close I'm getting?
Also, can you guys provide weights for the rails? Especially the 8.5" and 10" models?
Much appreciated.
