Are there any LED upgrades for Surefire lights such as the 6P and G2?

Thanks for the info. Didn't know that Surefire had an LED replacement lamp.

from another thread...

Instead of running a Scout, I run a E2D body with a LU60A conversion...inside the conversion is a Malkoff devices P60 Drop in Module.
I have been working with Gene now for a few months and his drop ins are pretty amazing! I have been running extensive and honestly pretty damn rough testing and all is good... my son has even played baseball with the light.
http://malkoffdevices.com

His drop ins are only $55 and $78 for the LU60A coversion kit $110 for E2D. So either spend a wopping $243 or if you have a E2D/E2E body layin around its a great build!

Or the cheap route is a G2 nirtolon $36 and $55 drop in and you have yourself an el cheapO torch!

He is building newer and smaller ones for E2D heads but it is a work in progress. He will be a SHOT this year so feel free to pic his brain.

You can drop this in any 6P style head up to a 9v system (Awsome run time 5.5hrs)

This scout version runs at 230 lumens for 3.5 hours

This is a standard 6P C2 Centurion next to it....

Travis,

Can you explain how you assembled this? I may go the same route.

Cyrus

It's a lot cheaper than doing this to a scout.

He bout a SF E2D, LU60A, LT mount and an aftermarket LED. That package is at least $294. If you went with a cheaper mount that wasn't offset, you could drop the price another $50.

If you don't want an offset mount and are looking for an integrated mount, we sell the SF Scout bodies (MH60), SF Scout conversion head (LU60A) and the E series click tail caps along with the LT Scout Mounts for about $258.

What about the SF LED conversion lamp assembly for the 6P/G2?
Do you have them?

The P60L (http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/24502/sesent/00/P60L-LED-Assembly) is the Surefire LED conversion for the 6P, 9P, G2, G3, G2Z, C2, C3, Z2, Z3, and D3 -- or any other light that takes that size lamp assembly. Like some of the Wolf Eyes and Fenix lights will probably accept it too.

I did have them, but someone came into the store and bought them all yesterday.

I have more on order.

I'll be upgrading my 6 series lights soon with these. They'll pay for themselves-that's if you are buying batteries.

The big advantage is the longer run time and lessens the chance of no light-that's a crappy time. Stronger bulb as well.

I just finished mounting G2L lights to all of our rifles and shotguns. they are a pretty nice light. For our purposes (patrol use) I think they would benefit from click on tailcaps but otherwise they are good to go.

I know they are Chinese, but the Ultrafire rechargeable "123a" equivalents at 3.7v x2 really make the new P60L shine.

Love the combo.

Is there a mount that one can use on the skinny E2 series, non-scout, bodies?

Yes, either the VLTOR E-series mount or the SureFire M78.

I don't have the ultrafire's (bought AW's from CPF) but the RCR123's are the answer. I've been using them for a year now I guess (?) and have not had a protected RCR123 go bad. The double length 17670 sticks don't hold up though, under recoil or regular use. YMMV.

Working mids with a couple LED's on hand the rechargeable lithiums are the only way to fly and still have gas money.

The Elzetta mounts come with a set of shims to fit smaller diameter lights.

The Vltor rings are pretty nice. I used them to mount G2L lights on all of our issue shotguns.

Looks nice, Travis. I've been tempted to order an L4, but may have to wait for SHOT Show to see if his smaller head E2D conversion is available.

I always have to look back at my notes and the ones I am using...

I have the 16340's, 880mAh 3.6V rechargeables which equates to the RCR123a.

Yeah, the battery numbers make firearms model numbers look sensical ;)

I had these: link to 17670s (http://www.lighthound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1302) die on me. Every cell I've bought in that configuration has died, either from recoil in a mounted 6P+drop-in cree lamp+VLTOR ring or from simple use.

ALL of these: link to RCR123as (http://www.lighthound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1155) are still in service in both mounted lights or duty/handheld use.

Whether it's a protected/unprotected issue or a simple durability problem I can't say, but when I hand off a light on a scene to a first responder that's cutting a wadded up truck off of its occupant I don't have time to instruct the guy to not run the cell down ;) My experience with the longer cells is enough of a clue for me. My 24v Li cordless tools are protected too, so somebody else agrees with me.

i'm using this setup with the stock scout screw mount and it's almost too bright. if i strobe it a little at a white interior wall, i'm getting a little blinded. hope i never make the mistake and shine it at a mirror:(

Has anyone tried one of these things: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058E5HCO/ref=s9_simh_gw_p60_d0_g60_i4?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-5&pf_rd_r=06RGN6D152CG9E244P2G&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470939291&pf_rd_i=507846

I've got a G2 & G3 (incandescent) and would like to upgrade to LED but for the price of the Surefire LED assembly I may as well spend a couple extra bucks and just get a new light.

Or is there another assembly using quality parts that doesn't cost 3/4 the price of a new light?

Yep, I bought one awhile ago and dropped it in my Surefie M951 and it's been great so far. No complaints at all. It puts out alot of good, useable light and the battery life is great compared to the standard P60 or P61 incandescant bulbs.

I have another one of the TNVC drop in 240 Lumen bulbs in one of my G2's and I can't tell the difference between the two as far as light output.

Pretty decent upgrade for the price.

There's also a 450 Lumen bulb for $5 more

It is a huge improvement over the standard Surefire bulb, cant say enough how much I like it.

I saw that but I had/have a concern about heat in the polymer body. I'm thinking it will be ok, especially as the P91 module works in the G3 and a 200 lumen indandescent light puts out some heat. Wasn't sure how the LED's would be. I figure it should be fine but I've never used such a small and powerful LED before.

I just received one of the TNVC drop in models. This one:

http://www.tnvc.com/shop/q5-cree-led-drop-in-lamp/

So far I like it and it's good bang for your buck if you want a good drop in with good CS and quick shipping. That being said it's advertised as being 220 useable lumens.

I am by no means a light guru. All I know is that I push a button and shit gets brighter. That being said in a very unscientific test I took both the 6P with the TNVC drop in and the older X300 that is the 110 lumen model out in the alley behind the house. The X300 blew the 6P away in regards to performance. Much brighter, better spill, better throw.

I'm happy with the TNVC for the price and for its intended use but there is a reason Surefire costs more. Hands down their stuff is the best I've used. Simply bomb proof and always performs. I've only had one time where I used Surefire's CS and they were top notch as well.

I have used two of these heads for very good results:

http://www.lighthound.com/Lumens-Factory-E-Series-LED-Head-Unit-Bulb-37--9-Volts--1-Mode_p_3855.html

They are very solid and have been running on two of my old e2e's for the past year now.

Rechargeables are a no no for weapon mounted lights, stick to primaries.

Can't go wrong with Malkoffs, if you plan on trusting your life to a drop in, I wouldn't go with anything less...but that's just my opinion. Thrunite makes some decent drop ins as well, but I wouldn't trust any of the "DX" generic p60s.

Maybe someone on this thread will know the difference between these two bulbs, the one on the bottom is substanialy brighter and whiter while the one on top is pretty dull and yellow.
The bottom one came out of 6P and the one on top came from a m952. Both say P60.
