****in' A. I couldn't figure out what the hell I could have done to myself, but one of my friends' wife is a doctor. She did all kinds of pulling, twisting, bending, folding, etc on my arm, identified the specific area involved, and said "You don't think all that Magnum rifle shooting over the last few months has anything to do with it, huh?"

I guess I can try to shoot left-handed for a while.

At least you were doing something fun. I messed my elbow up so bad screwing down a deck I'm having to get cortisone injections a couple or three times a year.

One of those times when I would have much preferred shootin' over screwin'.

I ordered a PAST super magnum recoil shield for the recovery period.

Okay - I am now willing to concede that shooting a hundred or two .300WM in a day might have ill effects after a while. Likewise with a .338 Lapua.

Holy crap! Do you get a new barrel every month???

No, I have a number of guns between me and the guys I shoot with. I shot 20 rounds from one of the guys' custom .300 Rem Ultra Mag on Friday, and I think that aggravated it. There's a lot of that kind of thing going on.

ETA: Now that I think about it - we really DO shoot, big bore guns, a lot. The guy with the .300RUM can't shoot it for a while because he has a partially detached retina from shooting it in an underground range, which is why I was shooting it.

Yeah... Pappabear usually bring too many guns and we rotate... We'll get as many as 50 rounds of 300 WM on a busy day.... but that's between the both of us.

He has a Holland Brake which easily cut recoil in half.

I'm not a brake fan because of the noise, but I may have to rethink that position if this recurs after I get it beaten back down.

Same here.... noise and dust.

But Saturday we both ran earplugs instead of our usual muffs.... Big difference in how much more relaxed we could get behind the bolt guns.

Plugs suck because you can't hear anything... communication sucks... but it makes a big difference even on the .308s with no brake.

Play video games like Halo and such to rehab yourself.

Then you get injuries in your hands and wrists.

While my father shot until the last year of his life, it was sad to see him not be able to manage guns as he once did. He could still shoot .308 from the bench but he had long switched to .223 and similar for hunting and the .30s mostly gathered dust for the last 5 years of his life.

He also had a new fondness for .22 lr for bench shooting. Out last time at the pistol range (a year before he died) was the last time he fired his 1911 and after about 20 rounds he needed to stop. It was incredibly sad to me, I've known him to shoot 1911s all my life. I can't imagine how he must have felt.

We live our lives around firearms and shooting. I do not look forward to the day when I have more troubles than enjoyment related to shooting. It will be very hard to accept. I always imagined when my mall walking days arrived I'd be doing it with an MP5.

Yup, went through this awhile back. An afternoon session of shooting a bunch of +P .45 ammo really aggravated it, and took 2 months to recover.

My father (turning 70 this year) has had one shoulder re-built and needs work on the other. He now sticks with 5.56 for long guns and went back to his .357 for ccw due to limp wristing his G17.

My ex-wife's grandfather tore a rotator cuff by shooting a deer rifle to far out on his shoulder, I forget the caliber. After that he switched to a .22-250.
