Several years ago, I wanted to give the AR platform a try. I bought an 18" rifle-length Doublestar. Shot it some, became disenfranchised with the build quality, sold it. Wanted better, bought a Spikes. Became disenchanted with hype and logo and questionable ethics. Sold Spikes. Sold seldom used Browning HiPower and FNX-9. Wanted the best, bought a Colt 6720.

Added Aimpoint H1 on DD mount, Noveske QD endplate (with I had stuck with factory endplate), BCM Mod4 CH, an IWC QD hand guard, Vickers sling, and chopped carry handle iron sight. Bought Eagle 3-pouch chest rig. Signing up for training course.

What do you dislike about the Noveske qd end plate? Curious because I'm planning on getting one. Thanks.

We all get there eventually. You path was shorter than mine, but longer than some. What matters is you got it sorted eventually. Congrats.

Thanks for the responses. I also meant to add, I'm currently at 6.6 pounds with empty mag and sling.

It's not the plate, it's the location. I hadn't used it before and made the mistake of not using it 'as is'. With the sling point there, it seems to pull the sling up into my face / cheekweld when I shoulder the weapon. I like the sling point much more at the end of the stock. There's nothing wrong with the Noveske plate or design.

It's in no small part due to folks like you and Grant and M4C who 'spread the gospel'. My thanks to you.

Where's your light?

Still deciding where to put one. I have a TLR1 and a G2LED. I just don't know where I want to put it given the small amount of real estate. I keep my hand up on front of the handguard and shoot 'thumb over'. I'm considering the MI FSB mount with the TLR1, just to preserve space. But not sure about weight/balance changes. (Input on that welcome).

I use the MI FSB mount an and X300 on the carbine I have with the 7.0 MOE and like the setup quite a bit. and I like that I can remove the light when I don't need it, or move it to my pistol and back again if I should need to. Having one light for all my guns is extremely convenient IMO.

Cool, thanks for the info. Was there any noticeable/meaningful weight or handling penalty?

There is also the Mossie Tactical FSB mount, if you do the 12 o'clock thing:

I thought I had the weight of it somewhere but can't find it now, but regardless I don't notice the piece is there.

Awesome. I think I'll order that mount today, and maybe an X300...

I have the MI FSB rail block with a G2 LED and VLTOR scout mount.

I like that it places the light up front so I have enough room to grasp the forward part of the handguard. I also shoot with my thumb over the top. I like the feel of the standard carbine handguard.

The disadvantage is that it is fairly heavy. I think it adds almost 0.5 pounds to the weapon. No experience with other weapon lights other than the G2 so I don't know if there's anything lighter.

It's irksome that Magpul hasn't devoted effort towards solving such an old problem. A lightweight FSB rail mount would be awesome. Or maybe polymer can't handle the heat there?

I have the MI FSB mount as well. It's noticeably heavy when just holding it on its own, but I don't notice as much mounted. It seems unnecessarily heavy. They easily could've reduced the amount of material on/in it.

Try loosening the sling slightly, I was having the same issue and letting the sling out slightly solved it.

One option is the IWC mount. A G2 will fit nicely.

Very nice, SpookyPistolero! I must say I like the Colt in LW profile especially with a MOE - really light weight. And I forgot how great the cut off carry handle works out if you don't need a flip down. I've got a couple that I crudely hacksawed too! :p

ETA:
Alas, a Hi Power would have looked real good next to the 6720! ;)

Nice gun, and I do think Colts are highly desirable. But, maybe I was NOT following the carbine boards at the time, but I don't get the "hype" or "ethics" argument. I DO get the "I have more confidence in Colt, because of the apparent scrutiny their products receive as evidenced by some of the posts here on M4C." Spikes was a small company trying to crank up at an "interesting time". I do see a bunch of quick 'at the trigger' criticism every time they come up, but don't necessarily hear of the problems either.

I do think the Colt pencil barrel in that config makes a WHOLE lotta sense. And... they are getting more reasonably priced these days - and thanks to the competition and our free market, they are a great and reasonable choice.

Nice rifle.

If you want to use the G2 and depending on where you want the light, look into the Elzetta light mount too. QD and light extra.

I'm going to give the IWC SMC mount a try, just ordered one. Figure I can sell it without too much of a loss if I don't like the placement. I'll snap some pics when it arrives.
