I saw this online wandering if it is true or some new marketing gimmick from sig http://www.sigsauerguns.com/the-shop/pistols/sig-sauer-p228-9mm-limited-production/. They say they are new p228 pistols from germany, yet it has exeter written on it. I have been wanting an older german made sig for a while and had the chance to buy a used p228 a couple weeks back. I never jumped on it and been kicking myself for it. Anyone know if this is true or not.
I would guess that's just a stock photo and not the photos of the actual guns. The German 226 has the DE in their photos. I would think a sight dedicated to selling only Sig stuff isn't going to try and piss off the Sig community by selling NH guns as DE guns.

True but if you look at the photos, on the handle it says 228. The other odd thing is this one is railed. In all other 228's I have seen they are non-railed. So I don't think that is a photo of a 226.
I didn't mean it was a 226. I meant in the photo of the German 226 they have for sale the 226 is marked DE.
I recall reading something about these hitting the market a month or so back. You might want to ask the guys on the Sig forum, they would know. I also remember reading something about Exeter gets to choose what parts go into the guns, though you might want to check that as well. It was part of a discussion when the German 226Rs went up for sale late last year.
I think $1000.00 is a bit steep for a P228, but that's up to you. Also, there are Swiss police trade ins on Guns America in the $500.00 range. Hope that helps.

I have one of the P228Rs that were released a few years back. Both slide and frame are marked made in Germany. The frame does have Sig Sauer - Exeter NH on it, but it says frame made in Germany - Sauer right under that. These frames appear to be made in Exeter compared to how a frame made in Germany and marked for sale by Sig Sauer would be marked.

The slide is made in germany but the frame is a standard 229R frame made in the us.
New production SIGs- stay as far away as possible, their quality, fit & finish have taken a nose dive. . .

I picked up a Swiss Police P228 a few years back and other than a little wear on the slide, it was in great shape. Sent it to Bruce Gray for a little work and it's a damn fine pistol. I would stay away from current production Sigs.

I know about sigs current issues. I researched the issue about a year ago and from all the feedback ended up purchasing a p30 instead. I'am not here to flame up the old qc issue with sig. I will probably go the gun america route and purchase a older mid 90's or early 2000's all german p228 for far less.
