I have a Beretta PX4 Storm .45 that I have a question about. Every time I go out shooting I pick up my brass for reloading in the future. I have noticed though that on one side of each casing is a long scorch mark. Is this just from ejector port side as the gasses go by? Or is there a problem with my weapon? Here are some pictures that show what I mean.

Your pics are about 1 inch by 1 inch. Any chance you can make them bigger?

What ammo is it? it looks like soot from under pressured ammo.

I shoot 230 Gr. UMC full metal jacket. If I recall correctly, I noticed the same thing on the casings of my 230 Gr. Federal HST's.

Other than under powered ammunition (which I don't think it is), what else could it be?

Does the chamber of the storm have an unsupported rear section? If so I imagine this is flashback/leakage/scorching onto the next round sitting on top in the magazine. The next time you are out with a clean gun and new ammo, shoot one round, then place the weapon on safe, remove the magazine, then eject the round from the chamber and look for the scorching on that round.

No, after thinking about it for a minute, that wouldn't work, maybe on the chambered case but not the shell still in the mag. Intriguing issue. Now I have to look at my brass tomorrow.........

Doesn't the PX4 have a rotating barrel? My guess is after firing, the casing - now hot and expanded - is pulled with extra force at point of the barrel or even the feedramp - possibly on an angle which marks the casing. Or even the ejector claws the casing in place while the barrel rotates, resulting in friction on one of the barrel lands and the casing.

That's my uneducated guess.

It would not surprise me seeing that with Rem UMC but I don’t think it should happening with Fed HST. In my experience this happens from under pressure ammo not allowing the case to expand properly and seal the chamber. I would try a box of some Win USA and see what happens.
