One of the items on the Christmas list for the wife to buy me is a pair of 8x30 or 8x32 binoculars. Zeiss and Leica are out of the budget.

I know Steiner has a good reputation but I find them a bit clunky.

What else should I look at? Waterproof Pentax? Nikon Monarchs? I have a pair of Zeiss 8x20 "opera glasses" (glad I got those when the dollar had parity with the Euro) but I need something more powerful for use on the rifle range.

Thanks.

Not sure if they make them anymore, but 5-6 years ago I purchased a pair of Burris porro prism binocs. I think they were called Fullfield back then, they had two lines, the more expensive Signature roof prism models, and the less expensive FF models. Anyway, they aren't bad for the $250 or whatever I paid for them.

One thing I learned, in the lower price point lines, you'll get a bit better binoc if you go for the porro prism models than the roof prism models.
