View Full Version : Something different in the 1911 variety...
Well, looking over my 1911s, I noticed something. They're all .45s (yes, the way JMB intended them). None of them have any issues, but I'm jonesing to add another to my stable as something just to tool around with. Hence why I come here tonight. Do I buy a 10mm from Wilson, or a .38 Super from SVI or STI? I don't know what to do. Please, oh please, M4C Gods, guide me with your infinite wisdom? I thank you in advance.

From time to time I desire a .38 super. I reload but brass isn't prevalent at the range. The super is largely a USPSA game gun. If I hunted then I might have a 10mm.

Hmmmm,,tough one,,BUT if I was just tooling around,,I would get the STI in 9mm !!! The 38 Super is a good round,,but if your just goofing around get the 9mm,,better availability,,cheaper,,etc,,,,all BETTER !! If your Serious about Hunting,,then go 10mm !! Ya really need to decide for yourself what ya are gonna do with it & go from there !!! :)

Not that looks like a lot of fun to shoot. Practical not so much, but fun to own and shoot, no doubt! :D

My one day experience shooting one, it's a fine machine and a concept that appears to work well. My buddy who has one and loaned it to me for the day, has had zero issues/malfunctions to far.

I really have no advice for you, because the topic of what you want can only be answered by you.

Because the 1911 was designed to function best with the 5" barrel and the EMP is just a wee bit shorter than that. I only own 1911s I can trust my life to. Too many issues with shorter guns, especially from a rack-grade.
Granted, Springfield will take care of their customers, but if I were to buy another Springer, it would be the PC9111LR. I'm at the stage where I'm buying mostly semi to full custom 1911s.
Welcome to the forum by the way. Read through. Enjoy the 1911s. Treat them like a spoiled wife/girlfriend and they'll keep you happy too.

Just picked up an STI Trojan in 9mm and it truly is a joy to shoot. I would stick w/ 9mm just for the cost factor now, as I'm having trouble finding reasonably priced 38 Super.
Sooo, I would recommend an STI Trojan (single stack), STI Eagle/Edge/Tactical (double stack), or if you have the moolah, a semi-custom in 9mm.
Oddly enough, the only factory built Colt I decided to keep was a SCG two-tone in 38 Super. I had several 10mm also, but I simply NEVER shot them so I got rid of them. I kept the 38Super SCG because it is an unbelievable shooter that has never failed, and it is very accurate even for a Colt Custom Shop gun.
I got rid of any 1911 that I wouldn't grab in the heat of the moment for any reason. All others are now gone and have turned into guns that I will shoot the snot out of!
I'm fortunate that I am now left with 7 outstanding 1911's and I dont really see adding that many more back to the collection except a couple Wilsons. I started at 13 with 1911's and they will always have a place in my collection but I'm done with collectable Colts that I would never shoot...
Either a Wilson Hunter 10mm or an old Gold Cup in super would get my vote

I owned a .38 Super STI Trojan, It was great when I had space for my reloading bench, after my divorce and the loss of my home not so much:mad:. It ended up being converted into coin so I could find a place to live. stick with a commonly available calliber it will get shot much more.

Here is my combo Super .38/9 MM.. It is a Series 70 Super .38 that I fitted a 9 MM barrrel to.. I found that 9MM will feed fine with the Super magazine, however, the Super rounds will not work in the 9 MM magazine because it has a rib in the back of the mag for the shorter round!! Note the dimples in the top mag which is the 9 MM mag.. All it takes is a barrel swap!! I had to modify the 9 MM barrel ramp to make it feed reliably...
