I don't know if this has been covered anywhere. Are the P99 factory magazines the same as the PPQ factory magazines?

From what I read the older P 99 mags no, current production yes.

One pet peeve with this pistol. Why not just use the older mags with this design?

The feedramp is longer on the PPQ than on the P99. I have no idea why, as my P99 has never had a feeding malfunction in the thousands of rounds of whatever ammo I could find to run through it, but it is what it is. Using older P99 mags in a PPQ will cause the feedramp to impact the front of the mag. A few people have cut a few millimeters off the front of older mags and reported success.

As an FYI, I'm using 4 Magnum Research Baby Eagle mags with my PPQ. I've been shooting quals and competitions and the mags have functioned flawlessly. They were about $34 if I recall.
