Apparently in protest of a Wylie, TX police officer placed on "administrative leave" while under investigation on child pornography charges (http://www.wfaa.com/home/related/Wylie-police-suspend-3-for-lewd-behavior-child-pornography-claim-138043138.html), the cyper-hacking group known as "Anonymous" has hacked into the Texas Police Association's web site, obtained the names and addresses of hundreds of Texas police officers, and published that information online.

Publishing the info of "hundreds" of LEOs is bullshit. It has always amazed me that a group that has supposedly coalesced around the idea of an "open society" with no secrets and no privacy calls itself "Anonymous" and goes to great lengths to maintain the anonymity of its loose membership.

However, when a citizen is arrested his address is usually published on the police sheet in the local papers. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

My personal irritation is the whole "innocent until proven guilty" they seem to ignore in cases such as this. Judge, jury and executioner--mob rule and guillotines is usually how that ends up.

Personally I don't think the mass publishing of names and addresses of police officers does anything positive for anyone, including "Anonymous". If they were to limit it to the accused officer than I don't see it as being any different than what would happen to any another citizen in the local newspaper. However, if you read the article the author states they know the officer's name but are not releasing it which is rather contrary to what they normally do with Joe Citizen.

Publish the names of the pedophiles and child pornographers and I don't think there'd be much of an issue but releasing the info of the good guys doesn't further anyone's agenda. The idea of punishing everyone for the actions of one is not uncommon.
