View Full Version : A2 Upper?

I'm considering building a proper A2 for KD shooting (I've got a carbine for other fun), but the trouble is, the only A2's I've seen so far are Bushmaster and DPMS and that's simply out of the question. Do any of the reputable makers put out a proper A2 upper? I saw a stripped upper by Del-Ton, but I've never even heard of them - any opinions?

I would use a Bushmaster upper (as long as it was the upper only) and the rest of the parts were quality. I doubt that it would be screwy. Their lowers are decent for building as well.

A search on Gunbroker generally turns up surplus Colt and FN upper receivers for not a lot of money, if that matters to you.

Armalite makes one.

But why not just make an A4 with a carry handle then you can always put an optic on it if you wanted to.

Exactly.

The forging isn't made by BM. Many of the reputable makers use the same forgings at BM does. It's BM's quality control in assembly, choice of internal parts, etc that causes them problems, not the forging of the upper or lower itself.

I don't know this guy from Adam but the price seems fair.

Hell, I've got one that is about 25 years old that I'm going to replace with a flattop. I should put it on gunbroker as an antique K stamped upper for 250.00$.

I think I bought my first AR in 2003, and it had a DPMS upper. It wasn't the greatest rifle in the world, but I think the DPMS upper receiver itself was the same quality as the Colt and FN uppers I was issued in the Army. The quality difference was mostly in the other parts such as the BCG and barrel. I wouldn't have any issue with building on a DPMS receiver (either lower or upper).

Not to my knowledge. I've been flip-flopping for a couple of weeks over how to top my BCM blem lower and after MUCH reseach, I finally decided to go with his BCM 16" CHF LW upper, MOE handguards, BCM BCG and standard charging handle. I'm thinking I'll just get an A2 sight/handle from LMT. Nice, clean and top quality...
