I stumbled across this.
Bat machine a known benchrest action manufacture has started to make there own barrel extentions.

CNC Precision machined barrel extension for the M4. These are completely machined after heat treat in only two setups. This allows us to manufacture the extension with more consistancy and tighter tolerances than others on the market. Call for volume pricing if ordering more than 5

Obviously this would not be worth while in a duty rifle.
But does any body have any thoughts about its use in a precision rifle build?

Unless you are a barrel manufacturer, that extension is nothing more than a $30 paper weight.

Yes you would have to have the extention sent to your barrel manufacture.

Yeah, very true. I can't even think of a manufacturer who sells completely stripped barrels (without extensions or drilled gas ports).

There are several barrel makers that supply .224 blanks with the idea they will be made into custom AR barrels

I can't see how it could hurt but a one-off experiment a friend did years ago didn't show any difference. Headspace, chamber dimensions and bore quality are the big, mechanical, factors.

That is what my gut feeling is. You would need to have every thing else that could possibly effects accuracy squared a way. And even then it it would miniscule at best.

Yes, BAT Manufacturing is well know in the benchrest circles...and
for their custom actions, scope rings and muzzle brakes etc...

Their new AR barrel extensions are built to extremely tight dim's,
& to a HQ finish and are the basis for some custom
AR15/AR-308 barrel manufactures...

Right now my custom wildcat barrels will be using BAT Machine
AR-15 barrel extensions and wait to see how tight they match
up to the M4 upper receiver...
