I just bought a 24" Remington 700 SPS in .308 to play with and I'm trying to figure out the parts I want to use for the build. The gun is going to be a tactical style bolt gun but I wouldn't mind shooting it in some local 600y-1000y events and maybe F-class T/R eventually.

Anyone have experience with rings and 1-piece bases that have worked well for them? I'm looking to keep the bill under $200 but I am a believer in buy once, cry once. I've heard pretty good things about TPS as well as Leupold. I've also heard good things about Millett rings but they look too thin for my taste. Its not going to be an uber serious competition gun but I do like having good gear. Looking for some more input. Thanks!

I like Badger. I have Badger rings, base and bolt nob on my 700P.

If you want to exceed your budget, the Near Alphamount (http://www.nearmfg.com/products.htm) is a great choice, but it will set you back $325. His mount is rock solid and he can provide whatever forward cant you need. You just call Richard, tell him your rifle and scope, and he'll get you set up.

Otherwise, I'd do a set of Badger USMC rings for less than $200.

I'm partial to the Nightforce line. The Near manufacturing is another good product.

Either do a 20 MOA base and low rings or do the direct mount.

I've heard pretty good things about TPS as well as Leupold.

I'm running TPS steel rings on a Warne one piece base. I got the TSR "W" version of the TPS rings.. pretty beefy.

I'd run seekins too. Pappabear has those and they're even beefier.

But I'm pleased with my set up for sure.

Well, I picked up a set of new-old-stock Leupold Mark 4 rings for cheap so I guess I've got my rings. I've also found a very good deal on a Warne base so that might be the way I go. Thanks for the input guys!
