A police buddy recently bought a lightly used, 14.5", stock, A2 BM HBAR. He has put about 500 rounds through it with no malfunctions.

Question: If all the staking has been done properly, and it looks to be good to me, is all he needs to do to make it G2G is upgrade the bolt to Colt, FN, etc., rather than replace the entire BCG?

In other words, if the rest of the BCG looks good, and is properly staked, is the unmarked BM bolt the only part that needs upgrading?

I used the search button and couldn't find this specific question/answer.

Grant of G&R Tactical had a thread (circa 2008) about things he upgraded on Bushmasters before letting them go out the door. There is no mention of replacing the bolt. Maybe he'll chime in if the procedure still holds valid. https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=13537

Just buy a complete Bravo BCG and throwthe Junkmaster BCG into spare duty.

If the carrier is staked correctly, I'd run the bolt..Maybe do a extractor upgrade,But that's it, Just keep an eye on it like you would any other bolt, inspect when cleaning, etc, I don't see any real reason NOT to run it..

Is it a plinker rifle or something that he's going to use for duty?
