If you want original Colt they come up on TOS EE pretty often and most times come with sight, FA, and port door. I have a Nodak lower and it is a quality piece so they are also a good option for an upper but they are stripped.
you can find Colt A1 uppers for around $100...
I passed this weekend on a barreled slick side Colt upper it went for $325...
One for sale here on the EE

Midway has the last series A1 with shell defecter . Bushmaster may still have some to. Maybe brownell's. I have seen a XM177E2 in the late 1970,s with the A1 with shell deflecter on it. The last ones were put together in the early 1980's from leftover parts with shell deflecter A1 top halfs. So it was used in service. Depends on what era you want to make a early 1960,s-1970 or later 1970-1980. By about middle 1980's the M4 took over .
