I scored a gen 2 Glock 19, original box and all. I am very excited...I like these more than the gen 3. Now to figure out what I need to do to it, if anything.

I'm sure others will have much better suggestions than I but I recommend getting some ammo and shoot the heck out of it. I have two, a gen 2 and a gen 3, and other than replacing the sights they are totally stock. My sampling size is only two but I have had zero problems with them as is.

Suggest...
Sights (Heinie, Warren, 10-8, Redback One, there are others)
Vickers extended mag release
Vickers extended slide stop
Grip plug (keeps stuff out of the internals)
Shoot it (lots)

There are a number of threads on Glock enhancements, but pretty sure I covered the essentials.

Shoot it.

I generally install new sights (TNS, MNS, and more recently Trij HD), but I leave them alone otherwise.

the gen II glock19 is one of my favorite weapons of all time. i like to fill in the field goal post white on the rear sight and install a front night sight. enjoy!

I have three gen 2 19's. They have all been run hard for a long time. No problemos. I think they are the best and most sensible pistol Glock has ever made. Right size, right capacity, and no idiotic finger grooves that fit nobody in particular.

All of these posts about Gen 2 Glock 19s are making me want to go get one! I have a couple of the third gens, but no finger grooves are awfully tempting! I normally don't like the idea of buying a used handgun, but I could make an exception here. For those who have bought one, are they worth the trouble to go hunting for a used one?

Nice, I have been looking for one for a while now. I say night sights, stipple job and round out the trigger guard.

Exactly what he said. After you have shot it a lot and PM time comes around, you could also change the extractor to the one that has the loaded chamber indicator a little more pronounced.
The G19 is a great choice.

So who did you mug to get a G19 for 250 dollars? That's outrageously cheap.

Good god $250 is a great price, good score man!

The day a used Gen2 19 walks into the gun store i work at, is the day i can finally give my 2 weeks notice. I've been looking out for one for a year now, with no luck.

I prefer the non-FG/R frames, and continue to acquire them. I prefer the transitional (pre-"3rd Gen") frames with reinforced front frame rails especially, and usually buy those whenever found.

The previous owner put XS Big Dot sights on the gun, which I can take or leave, and a 3.5 # connector. I will likely swap out the connector for a stock part, but otherwise maybe go with the extended slide stop and mag release.

I'm a newbie here. Been reading a lot. I'm glad I came here as I was just about ready to get a Gen 3 G19. Now I'm thinking of a Gen 2. What would be a reasonable price for decent one suitable for carry? I saw that another person on this thread got one for 250. Most of the prices I've seen are in the 400s. What would be a good range?

Welcome. Maybe you should change your screen name to "Blue Devil"? :) I kid, I kid....

$250 is outrageously low, incredibly low, impossibly low. Think more around $350-$450 for used Glocks. Are you in NC? Try Lawman's in Raleigh or Greensboro...they often have police trade-ins at decent prices.

I love my Gen 2 19. Only thing needed is to replace all the springs if it looks real high mileage. If not just the recoil spring just in case. Then shoot the hell out of it.

I set mine up this way and love it,
G17 smooth trigger.
NY1 and 4.5 OEM connector.
Vickers mag release.
OEM extended slide stop.
Trijicon HD's.
and a grip plug.

Assuming the gun is in good shape would $495 for a Gen 2 19 w/ one mag and night sights be too much? It seems so to me when I can get a new G3 or G4 for about 500 retail or a GSSF G4 for 425 (IIRC). Local G2 17s are running 450 - 500.

I just bought a Gen2 G19 with one mag for $399. I had my own brand new (and thus very bright) Ameriglo night sights installed for $90.

The deciding factor for me would be how bright the night sights are - but I'm different, I love the older G19s. Night sights are irrelavent if they have lost all illumination.

When you guys upgrade the springs in yours what do you do with the recoil spring assembly?

Do you upgrade to a Gen. 3 style contained system or keep the Gen 2. system?

I recently acquired a Gen. 2 19 and it appears to have some miles on it.

The Gen 2 and the Gen 3 springs are the same.

The Gen 2 and the Gen 3 springs are the same.

Thank you for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if a Gen. 3 captive recoil spring assembly would work in my Gen. 2 with a non-captive RSA. I had swapped them back and forth between my guns and cycled them by hand but have not tried it with live ammo yet.

I know what you mean, I sold mine like an idiot and have been looking for one for a very long time. I know I can go buy a new one, but I prefer the 2nd gen Glocks over all others.

I think $495 for a used Glock is too much. You can read all the threads about a gen 3 vs gen 4 and decide for yourself if you want a new one. I do know that some people really like the older gen 2 and will pay a little more, but $495 seems a little too high. I would pay $450 for a gen 2 G17 as my time is worth the $$ it would take to shop around to find it cheaper.

I paid $300 for this one:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/Jr1572/glock%2019%20gen%202%20laser/9ef688a8.jpg

I had the laser removed, the holes plugged and it came out like this:

I'm getting another one for about the same price. It may be a candidate for stippling.
