Hello all...Ive been lurking around a few forums similar to m4, and today I finally decided to join. I have a pretty thorough collection for my age, but until last week, I never had an ar style rifle. For some reason or another I would always talk myself out of it, that is until I read about the 300aac. Its just what I want in an automatic weapon. Thanks for all the knowledge I have gained thru this extremely resourceful forum! Here is my first build. I would highly suggest for anyone's first ar definately build it urself. Not only can it be significantly cheaper, but you actually learn the ins and outs of how your firearm works!http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x371/318lll1927/IMG_20120213_202959.jpg
DSA upper
Surplus Arms Lwr
Rock River Arms BCG
AR Stoner 300aac 16" SS barrel
BSA 4X30 Tactical compact scope
Magpul mbus front sight
Magpul AFG2
UTG quad rail gas block
Osprey Carbine quad rail
PSA LPK, tan ergo grip was just mailed today:D
UTG OD Collapsible Stock.
$700 for everything!

She is a budget build for me to learn and improve on. So far im pleased as punch, one hole 3 shot groups from two different shooters at fifty yards. Only problem I had was cycling. It took about 30 minutes of finaggling, but all I did was remove one of the three buffer weights, and cut the spring two coils at a time until I got a 4 o clock shell ejection. I figured if all I have to do to reliably shoot subs is use the modified buffer and spring, it will only take about $20 for spring/buffer and 5 minutes to make it supersonic/5.56 capable its well worth it. I will be doing a good bit of testing this caliber. Im lucky to be blessed with a job where I get an oppurtunity to shoot all the time(forester/landman). So far, this rifle is gonna get some helluva use in the days to come!

No worries....im having waaay too much fun with this thing to sell, it looks like Ill be buying a lot more stuff to go along/improve my first AR. Again I cant believe how accurate this thing is. 77 shots down the tube since Friday, and from very first sighter target this thing has been putting shots in the same cloverleaf! They say the supersonics are accurate as well, so hopefully I can scrape up some dough this week to order a case of 115gr for $130. I can tell I will be shooting this thing a lot!

I was looking into getting that very upper myself. How's the fit and finish on it? Would love some closeup pics. That upper is a very good deal for the money.
Congrats on the build, looks nice.

Fit and finish on both upr and lower are fantastic! I am running an accuwedge, and feel no play. I did scratch my lwr twice assembling and the upr got a scratch installing forward assist. Ive built a few custom firearms, but the service/help in the AR community is awesome. Every dealer or just plain old gun guy was willing to help tremendously with my project. Thanks guys...and gals..I'm hooked.

I like that pic. :D

Me too.
But why do you have an MBUS front and no rear on your rifle?

By the way, one should never remove weights from a buffer or cut an action spring. It sounds to me that the barrel maker made the gas port too small. You should just drill it larger and put back in a normal spring or else the rifle won't be able to strip rounds from a fully loaded mag.

Thanks for the comments guys...

My rear sight should be here anyday now with my ergo grip as well.

I didnt feel confident about enlarging pas port, but I will do some research on it today. I use 20 rd mags and havnt been loading more than twelve or so rounds, so I wasnt aware or stripping prob on full clip...thanks again

Agree don't cut the spring nor remove buffer weights! Just stop shooting subs without a cann! Shoot suppers or buy a cann!
Obviously your barrel was made for a cann. As it's threaded for such or are you just awaiting your flash hidder?

As others have already stated - do not cut springs or remove buffer weights.

Maybe get a Krink -style muzzle device to boost the gas pressure. Do Noveske make a 30-cal version of the KX-3?
Tried feeding it from a different mag? I'm a Magpul fanboy but I seem to see quite a few reports of their 20-rounders being problematic.

Im just mounting a simple flash hider for now...but im gonna figure this gas port out this weekend. Im not sure what size mine is now, so I will start there. What is a good port size for the blackout?

Sounds like you are having a good time and learning a bunch. My only thought... when posting pics of your firearms online, generally a good practice to obscure serial numbers. Little piece of electrical tape will go along way.
