I am thinking of replacing GI type sliding stocks with either MagPul ACS or VLTOR Enhanced modstock.... price is virtually the same so what are the differences or preferences from those who use them.

my thanks in advance.

Well, hair, mostly long facial hair, is known to get caught in the VLTOR's cheek rest. If that's not a big problem then I think that you'll basically just flip a coin. That's my two cents.

I have owned both. Get a Vltor.

If it were me I would say neither, but I usually have beard and prefer the ctr over most all the Magpul stocks

Both are great.

I've used both and prefer and use a Vltor EMOD.

I also always have facial hair and usually wear a full beard in the cooler months.

I've had no issues to date with the EMOD and facial hair but I do tend to keep it pretty short.

I like my ctr also. That being said, my next stock will be a vltor imod

I would agree about the CTR. It's my most preferred Magpul stock. Having said that, I have had the chance recently to spend some time with a buddies rig using an EMOD - I love it. The next stock I buy will be the EMOD. I can't grow a beard in my line of work but I can see how it would be an issue for some guys.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but I believe there is some type of tubular attachment at the top/side of the EMOD's that create that seam that grabs beards; can that be removed or, if so, would it be worth it?

Tough call. I use both and might give a slight edge to the ACS; with their new ACS-L and STR you have two more choices to muddle over.

Good point. Might be worth waiting a bit, if possible, and checking out the differences out at the range or a local gun store. If I took my own advice I'd have a bigger savings account.

OP, you should seriously consider the new Magpul STR, check weld is better than the IMOD and ACS (I've owned those a Moe and Emod)... the friction lock is awesome, super tight. I just got one on my Rainier RUC.

I had an ACS for a while and while it was heavy it definitely balanced out the heavy fore-end of the rifle I once had it on. I personally prefer the lighter-weight stocks like the CTR/MOE, but if I had to do another SPR I'd probably go with another or at least something similar to the ACS.

I ran a Modstock for a number of years and changed over to a ACS. I'm glad I did.
I've never tried out the IMOD or the EMOD but between your two choices, the ACS in my opinion is the better stock.

Have tried both, the ACS just seems to fit me better and produces a better cheek weld, just sayin'

New STR or B5 Sopmod?

I run an ACS, my wife's has an EMOD with a sticker over the gap - I like the both, and they're too close to compare. The ACS-L, STR, and IMOD just further complicate it with even more good options.

+1 for Vltor.

I don't know what all this talk about fur getting caught in the Vltor cheek weld. Mine (lip ferret) gets caught between the stock and the RE tube.

Food for thought...

Gearscout buttstock bashfest. (http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2012/02/01/buttstock-bashfest-gearscout-finds-out-just-how-far-tough-talk-goes/) There is a thread floating around here on this as well.
