Fellas need your expertise on a rifle, Its my first post here but been lurking gathering information.

I am a long time gun nut I shoot and carry 1911's I cannot get enough of them.. However I am looking to purchase my first AR.

I came across a dealer that has a LMT CQB MRP for $1350 out the door. Is that a good price..

I am looking for a versatile weapon and like the idea of the LMT, being able to shoot 556 and change to the harder hitting 6.8 round.. Also like that versatility of being able to get a shorter barrel..Damn I just like the many choices that it offers :p

So my question is the LMT CQB MRP a good weapon of choice or should I look elsewhere.. Like I stated I like the fact that its versatile, and could adapt to a variety of situations..

Is LMT the only manufacture that makes such a versatile weapon...Being able to make a caliber switch.

So in short for my first AR should I buy the LMT CQB MRP for $1350...if I do I will also get the conversion for it to the 6.8... or should I look at another maker..

Any information would be much appreciated and I thank you in advance for all your time..

if you have this AR please send me some pics or links... thanks again

Best Regards,
Jim L.

Can't offer direct advise on your question but by using the search feature I found the following:

Maybe they can lend some support one way or another to what people on the forum think of the LM CQB MRP.

Good luck on your first AR!

Doing a quick Google search I found several places selling just the complete uppers for $1300. Seems the average price for a complete rifle was 1600 and up. LMT lists the DI version on their site for $1892.04.

As an MRP lover, I will tell you that that is a fair price, not necessarily a *steal*, but a fair price. Yes, LMT is good to go. Their products are high-quality and worth the $.
As far as caliber changeability goes, the MRP is top of the line, and the best option available for most users.
If I were you, I would get that MRP and have no regrets, though whether or not 6.8 is an economical and worthwhile investment is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

That price sounds very cheap to me. I've never heard a bad word about LMT AR's.. Ron

The rifle in the picture in that link is not an MRP, though the description is of an MRP. I would be sure, if that was the dealer you are going through, you are actually getting an MRP, and not the standard patrol model in the picture.

As long as you understand that the caliber change is not exactly "quick" as is requires a torque wrench to perform, LMT is one that makes such an animal, as is Mega (http://www.megamachineshop.com/armscatalog/MTS-QUAD/loader.html).

I would strongly suggest pricing up the cost of the LMT MRP with a 5.56 barrel and 6.8 barrel and comparing that to simply setting up two identical traditional uppers with the different barrels. You may find that the legacy system is less expensive depending on your choices.

Also, the LMT requires their barrel or modifications to a standard barrel to work while the Mega will take a standard barrel.

Personally, I'd like to see a comparison between the Mega and LMT as I've been passively interested in both but am not entirely clear on the advantages of one over the other.

If youre in or around Phila Pa (going off of your name here) Take a ride to Surplus City in Feasterville Pa (Southampton). They often get police trade in Colt ARs. Sure they are not pretty. Lots of scratches on the outside and all but they are still Colts and most have more wear on the outside then on the inside (where it matters). Usually priced around $600-$800 depending on the model or any accessories that it might have. Then take the money you saved by not spending the $1300 and buy mags, ammo and other accessories that you might want. Unless you really want the LMT and it must be brand new. I picked up the AR15A3 which has removable carry handle, the heavy barrel and 1/9 twist. Cost was $650ish. They get in different models depending on what agency it came from.

Of corse we're talking strictly 5.56 here. Never seen a 6.8 police AR.

Buy it. Then sell it to me for 1400.

All jokes aside, that's a great deal, LMT seems to be among the top tier AR manufacturers right now. And that's a pretty great deal, considering I fondled one yesterday that had $1850 on it.
